Movie
Description
Mei Mei is a Grade 1 jujutsu sorcerer who operates independently, taking on missions for payment rather than being formally tied to a specific organization. She comes from a sorcerer family and was already a senior to Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto during their time as students at Tokyo Jujutsu High. In the year 2006, which is the setting of the Hidden Inventory arc, she worked alongside Utahime Iori on missions and interacted with Gojo, Geto, and Shoko Ieiri.
Her most defining characteristic is an unwavering, almost philosophical commitment to money as the universal measure of value. She is famously open about her greed, stating that she does not get out of bed for free and that she cannot understand any relationship not based on monetary value. Allegiances, politics, and personal bonds are secondary to her primary motivation: financial compensation. Despite this mercenary worldview, she maintains a calm, cool, and relatively friendly demeanor in most situations. She is not entirely devoid of positive qualities; she has a keen eye for recognizing the talent and potential in others, such as Maki Zenin and Yuji Itadori, and does not hesitate to offer them genuine praise. Her relationship with her younger brother, Ui Ui, is also a notable exception to her otherwise transactional nature, as she is deeply protective and affectionate toward him.
In the events of the Hidden Inventory arc, Mei Mei appears as a capable and level-headed sorcerer. On a mission with Utahime, they become trapped within a cursed spirit's barrier, and she calmly discusses their strategy before being rescued by Gojo and Geto. This early depiction establishes her as a pragmatic professional who keeps her composure under pressure. Her role in the broader story is that of a powerful ally and occasional collaborator with Tokyo Jujutsu High. She serves as an observer during the Kyoto Goodwill Event, using her technique to monitor fights, though she is not above accepting a bribe to obscure the footage. Later, after receiving a significant sum from Gojo, she uses her influence to recommend several students, including Yuji Itadori, for promotion to Grade 1.
Regarding her abilities, Mei Mei wields a massive axe in close-quarters combat with incredible speed and precision, a skill she honed because she initially believed her innate technique was weak. Her innate technique is Black Bird Manipulation, which allows her to control crows and share their vision, making her an excellent scout. The true power of this technique is revealed in its ultimate application, Bird Strike. By forming a binding vow that forces a crow to sacrifice its own life, she removes the limits on its cursed energy, turning the bird into a devastating, suicide projectile. This attack is so powerful that it is said only Satoru Gojo has ever survived it. Her tactical intelligence, combat experience, and this lethal technique make her a formidable fighter, capable of holding her own against special grade curses.
