Description
Mortzel is a music robot who appears in the film Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Chikyū Symphony. He is one of the robotic inhabitants of the Grand Hall of Farre, the spacecraft built by the people of the planet Mushka. His design and name are inspired by the classical composer Mozart.
Mortzel possesses a polite and gentlemanly demeanor and speaks with a soft, courteous manner. He is patient and encouraging, particularly when guiding Nobita and his friends in their early attempts to generate Farre energy through musical performance. His calm and nurturing attitude helps the children overcome their initial uncertainty about playing their instruments in an unfamiliar environment.
In the story, Mortzel is among the first robots the group encounters after entering the Hall of Farre. They meet him and his companion Batchi at the dried-up Harp River, a section of the palace that has fallen into disrepair due to energy loss. Mortzel explains that by playing their instruments toward Farre ore, they can produce Farre energy and restore the water flow to the river. He demonstrates how the music robots of Mushka once maintained the palace through collective performance, and his guidance allows Nobita, Doraemon, Shizuka, Gian, and Suneo to successfully reactivate the river, marking their first meaningful contribution to reviving the spacecraft.
Mortzel's role is that of a supportive guide and early mentor. He introduces the children to the fundamentals of how Farre works and sets the tone for the cooperative musical efforts required to restore the palace. He does not undergo significant personal development in the film, as his primary function is to assist the main characters during the early stages of their adventure and to represent the dedicated service robots who once sustained Mushka's musical civilization.
He shares a close working relationship with Batchi, a smaller two-headed robot that communicates through sounds rather than speech. Mortzel also belongs to the larger community of robot musicians within the palace, including Takiren and Wakner, though his direct interactions with them are limited. His relationship with the human characters is warm and instructional; he treats Nobita and the others with respect and encourages them to find their own musical expression.
In terms of abilities, Mortzel is capable of producing Farre energy by playing an instrument, and he possesses knowledge of the palace's infrastructure and the properties of Farre ore. He demonstrates skill in teaching others how to harness this energy, indicating a background in both musical performance and technical maintenance. Like the other music robots in the film, his existence is tied to the survival of the Farre system, and he remains dedicated to his duty even after the planet Mushka has fallen.
