Description
Akihiko Beppu is a second-year exchange student at Binan High School and the older twin brother of Haruhiko Beppu. He has ice-blue hair swept to the left and deep fuchsia pink eyes, with thinner eyebrows than his brother. His typical outfit includes a formal white ruffled shirt, a gray blazer, and a light golden scarf tied in a bow, featuring a moon-symbol jewel. On the surface, Akihiko presents himself as polite, friendly, and elegant, often using respectful language. However, his remarks frequently reveal a sharp, sarcastic, and cunning nature. He shows his emotions easily, especially when upset or stressed, and relieves stress through hobbies such as calligraphy and playing the flute. He dislikes green peppers and enjoys rice balls.
As children, Akihiko and Haruhiko were saved from a monster attack by Gōra Hakone, then the hero known as Battle Lover Maximum Gorar. This event sparked an intense, almost obsessive admiration for Gōra. After their father’s job relocated the family to the Andromeda Galaxy, the twins were ostracized and bullied by alien peers for defending Gōra, who was falsely portrayed as a villain in local media. Feeling isolated and desperate to reconnect with their savior, they were recruited by an alien creature named Dadacha and reluctantly became the galactic idol duo VEPPer, believing fame would attract Gōra’s attention. As part of VEPPer, Akihiko transforms into Melty Luna, a moon-themed warrior who wields a staff that doubles as a calligraphy brush, channeling ice and moon-based powers. He and his brother create Loveless monsters to challenge the Earth Defense Club, also known as the Battle Lovers.
Akihiko and Haruhiko hold a grudge against Yumoto Hakone, Gōra’s brother, whom they see as monopolizing Gōra’s time. Throughout the story, their hostility begins to wane after Gōra finally recognizes them as the children he once saved, acknowledging that they have grown strong. Following this reconciliation, Akihiko and his brother cease their active hostilities, begin treating their fans with more respect, and collaborate with their former enemies. His name incorporates the kanji for moon, aligning with his celestial motif.
