Description
Ichiro Dōgo is a first-year student at Binan High School and one of the main protagonists of the Cute High Earth Defense Club Eternal Love! story. He is a boy with an unmistakable appearance, characterized by his messy, bright pink hair and rose-red eyes. His school uniform reflects his casual and unrestrained personality, as he typically wears his shirt partially unbuttoned and leaves his blazer completely open, often adorned with a large pin on the right lapel. His birthday is August 8, and his name has a thematic connection to the Dōgo Onsen area and a specific type of roll cake called Ichiroku tart, which is reflected in the swirl design of his signature badge and his occasional association with pastries in the series' opening sequences.

At his core, Ichiro is defined by his passionate and energetic nature, wearing his heart on his sleeve at all times. He is the polar opposite of his classmate Taishi Manza; where Taishi is analytical and fact-driven, Ichiro approaches life with pure emotion and enthusiasm, often speaking his mind freely. Once he decides to pursue something, he commits to it with fierce determination until he achieves the desired result. However, this passion is tempered by a significant degree of naivete. While his intentions are always good and his heart is in the right place, his lack of social awareness can sometimes lead to unintentional faux pas, such as when he enthusiastically supported his cousin for a school play lead role due to his weight and name, not realizing the potential embarrassment he might cause. Despite his straightforward nature, he made a childhood promise to himself to become more self-aware, a goal he has actively worked toward as he has grown older.

Ichiro's background is closely tied to his family and his admiration for an upperclassman. He grew up with his cousin Maasa Shirahone, attending the same elementary school and being a consistently supportive presence in his life, even if his support was not always wanted. Remarkably, even after discovering that Maasa is a member of the rival group Edelstein, Ichiro shows no animosity or ill will toward him. A defining moment from his childhood was writing a letter for a time capsule, in which he confessed his admiration for a student two years above him named Nanao Wakura. Ichiro was deeply inspired by Nanao's straightforward and piercing gaze, and the encouragement to stay true to his cheerful, direct nature had a lasting impact on him. He vowed to maintain those qualities while also refining his social perception and ability to read a room. This admiration continues into his high school years, as he now finds himself in the same club as Nanao, looking up to him despite the older boy's tendency to tease him in a flirtatious manner.

Within the narrative, Ichiro serves as one of the youthful and energetic members of the Earth Defense Club known as Happy Kiss. He forms a pact with an otter-like creature named Karurusu, which allows him to transform into a magical knight. His transformation title is the Magic Knight of Space, also known as Spazio Kiss, and his attribute is the color pink. His transformation chant reflects his positive and expansive nature: Let's bring happiness to the universe. In his transformed state, he wields space-themed abilities channeled through a weapon featuring a pink crystal with a dark pink galaxy swirl.

His key relationships are central to his role in the story. He has a close and often argumentative dynamic with his classmate Taishi Manza, with whom he frequently debates topics ranging from whether the Earth Defense Club was once a real club to the existence of buried treasure. While Taishi relies on logic and facts, Ichiro stubbornly defends his side with passion and feelings. Nonetheless, he is not afraid to call out Taishi for being evasive in his arguments, and when it comes to protecting his friends, especially Taishi, he will always rush to their aid without hesitation. He is also the frequent target of good-natured teasing from the older members of Happy Kiss, including Nanao and others, who might, for instance, work to open his class time capsule against his will. Ichiro takes all of this teasing in stride, never holding a grudge or getting seriously angry about how he is treated.

One of Ichiro's distinctive traits is his reluctance to resort to violence. He rarely wants to fight, much preferring the approach of talking down monsters and resolving conflicts peacefully, a method he admires in his senpai Kyōtarō Shuzenji. This preference for non-confrontation is balanced by his fierce protective instincts; when the safety of his friends is threatened, his passionate nature takes over, and he will fight with all his strength. His development throughout the story focuses on fulfilling the promise he made in his childhood time capsule, striking a balance between maintaining his authentic, energetic, and cheerful self while becoming more conscious of social cues and the feelings of those around him.
