Description
Caroline Simmons is a character from the anime series Secrets of the Silent Witch. She is a second-year student at Serendia Academy and the daughter of the Count of the Norn family. Her family’s territory is vulnerable to dragon attacks, which has forced them to rely on the military and economic protection of the more powerful Kerbeck Count family, represented at the academy by Isabel Norton. This relationship of dependency places the Norn family in a politically subordinate position, a fact Caroline herself fails to appreciate.

In terms of personality, Caroline is defined by her profound arrogance and a haughty sense of entitlement stemming from her noble status. She is notorious for flaunting her family’s position and looking down on others, yet she possesses no outstanding skills or strategic mind to back up her confidence. Caroline is highly impulsive, with a tendency to act on her petty schemes without considering the consequences. She is often seen with two attendants who follow her, creating a small circle that bolsters her self-importance.

Caroline’s primary motivation is to assert her superiority and settle perceived slights against her honor. Initially, she engages in minor acts of bullying against weaker students like Selma Karsh. After receiving only a mild reprimand for an incident where she pushed Monica Norton down the stairs, Caroline felt humiliated and developed a vendetta against Monica. Her role in the story is that of an antagonist whose actions serve as a critical lesson in political naivete. Her schemes go too far when she invites Monica to a tea party and, seeking revenge, slips a toxic dilation agent, an eye medication, into her tea. Caroline viewed this as a mere nasty prank, but it was legally and socially an act of attempted murder.

Her key relationships are defined by her conflicts. Her primary target is Monica Norton, whom she mistakes for an unimportant member of the Kerbeck family’s branch lines. In reality, Monica is secretly Monica Everett, the Silent Witch and one of the Seven Sages, making an attack on her an implicit challenge to the kingdom’s highest authority. This action also draws the ire of Isabel Norton, the powerful heir of the Kerbeck family who views Monica as a protegée. By targeting Monica, Caroline directly insults the family that her own house depends on for survival. Finally, her actions anger Felix, a member of the student council who has taken a special interest in Monica.

Caroline’s character development, though ultimately self-destructive, stems from a failure to learn. After getting away with a minor punishment for bullying, her confidence only grew, leading her to escalate to a far more serious crime. The result is a dramatic downfall. Once the tea party incident is exposed, she is immediately expelled from Serendia Academy for attempted murder and defamation. Her two followers, likely realizing the severity of the situation, chose to withdraw from the school as well. The consequences extend far beyond her expulsion, as the scandal permanently damages the Norn family’s reputation, leaving them vulnerable in political negotiations for generations. In terms of abilities, Caroline lacks notable magical or strategic capabilities and relies entirely on her noble status and impulsive action, a combination that ultimately leads to her ruin.
