Pang Nuan, known as Hou Ken in Japanese media, is a formidable martial artist identified as a Bushin. Hailing from a mysterious tribe dedicated to ending all wars, he seeks the martial path. He serves as a member of the Zhao state's Three Great Heavens, holding the position of First Great Heaven for a new generation. He possesses a muscular, large build, long dark brown hair, red eyes, and brown skin. A prominent scar runs from his forehead's left side down to his right cheek. Tribal tattoos mark his forearms, and he typically wears a large, knee-length poncho-like cloak. His personality is pragmatic and ruthlessly combat-focused. He exhibits acute awareness of others' martial potential, preemptively targeting individuals—even children like Shin or Kyou Kai—if he perceives future threats. Hou Ken believes himself the sole entity feared by the heavens, his daunting presence often paralyzing opponents. He speaks in archaic Chinese, frequently using terms like "thou." Despite his solitary nature, he maintains a complex alliance with the Zhao strategist Ri Boku, who recruits him into military affairs. Hou Ken's origins stem from a traumatic childhood. As an infant, his benevolent chi healer parents were slaughtered by an unnamed Bushin who kidnapped him. The brutal training under this master remains largely unknown, but upon reemerging as an adult, he bore identical forearm tattoos, wielded a similar glaive, and wore nearly identical attire to his captor. In 255 B.C., while training in forests by decapitating tigers, he encountered the critically wounded Zhao soldier Ri Boku. Initially intending to kill him, Hou Ken spared Ri Boku after sensing the "voices of the earth" declare their fated connection, viewing Ri Boku as a guide to the "Answer" he sought. His story unfolds through key conflicts: * During Qin's conquest of Bayou, he confronted and slew Kyou, one of Qin's Six Great Generals, though she severely wounded him. Enraged by Kyou's death, her fiancé, the Qin Great General Ou Ki, nearly killed Hou Ken, scarring his face before Hou Ken's body was riddled with arrows. Presumed dead, he survived and spent three years recovering, followed by six years of intensive training. * Years later, Ri Boku recruited him for Zhao's campaign against Yan. As commander, Hou Ken killed Yan's Great General Geki Shin in a single day, dismissing the victory as boring until Ri Boku assured him it was a prelude to greater battles. * In the Coalition Invasion against Qin, he infiltrated Qin territory via a mountain passage and killed Duke Hyou during a duel. Duke Hyou, before dying, denounced him as a "buffoon" incapable of understanding the strength derived from battlefield camaraderie, which had led to Ou Ki's earlier victory over him. * His final battle occurred at Shukai Plains, where he dueled Shin of the Hi Shin Unit. After a protracted struggle, Shin inflicted fatal wounds, ending Hou Ken's life. Throughout these events, Hou Ken served as Zhao's strategic enforcer under Ri Boku, participating in critical operations like the Zhao-Yan conflict and the Coalition Invasion. His actions consistently targeted high-value threats to Zhao, including Qin commanders and rising talents like Shin. His death concluded his quest to embody the heavens' wrath.
