Description
Kafka Hibino is the central protagonist of the story, a man whose life takes an extraordinary turn as he approaches his early thirties. Standing at 181 centimeters tall with a birthday on August 5th, Kafka had long abandoned his childhood dream of joining the elite Anti-Kaiju Defense Force after repeatedly failing the entrance examination. Instead, he found employment with Monster Sweeper Inc., a professional cleaning company responsible for the dangerous and gruesome task of disposing of kaiju corpses. It is during this period of his life, while working a job that keeps him adjacent to the world of kaiju but far from his ambitions, that he encounters a junior colleague named Reno Ichikawa. This meeting reignites Kafka’s dormant aspirations, prompting him to once again pursue the goal of enlisting in the Defense Force.
Before he can act on this renewed determination, a bizarre incident occurs. A mysterious, small kaiju appears and forcibly enters Kafka’s body, transforming him into a powerful humanoid kaiju. This new being is given the official designation of Kaiju No. 8 by the Defense Force. This transformation grants Kafka immense power but also places him in grave danger, as the Defense Force is tasked with exterminating all kaiju.
