Description
Corvus, whose full name is Arkha Corvus, is a major character in Gachiakuta who serves as the enigmatic and charismatic leader of the Cleaners, the organization dedicated to exterminating the monstrous beasts born from trash known as Trash Beasts or Stain Beasts. He is a towering figure, standing at 195 centimeters tall with a powerful and slightly muscular build. Corvus has dark skin and a distinctive head of wild, black hair styled into thick locks or cornrows, often accessorized with silver earrings. His calm, grey-white eyes are complemented by one of his most unique features: a light grey tattoo of an eye on the back of his head that is naturally capable of movement. His typical attire as the Cleaners boss includes a long beige-grey coat with the organization's gold logo on the left side, worn over a black bodysuit and a yellow tank top, paired with baggy navy blue pants and small white gloves.
In terms of personality, Corvus is a collected, reasonable, and reliable leader who is deeply respected by the members of the Cleaners. He possesses a calm and serene demeanor, even in tense situations, and a strong sense of justice and responsibility. His personal philosophy, that only those who fight for something can be remembered, establishes him as a figure of significant moral weight. Despite his steadfast loyalty to his comrades, he is also described as capricious and is often absent from the Cleaners headquarters for reasons he does not explain, adding to his mysterious aura. This behavior does not undermine his authority, as his subordinates trust his strength and judgment completely.
Corvus plays a pivotal role in the story as the commanding officer of the Cleaners, acting as both a stabilizing presence for the group's many eccentric members and the figure who gives them direction and purpose. His most significant action is the official welcoming of the protagonist, Rudo, into the organization after Rudo proves his willingness to protect his comrades. He also serves as a key source of information for Rudo, sharing critical knowledge about the mysterious and dangerous Border that separates the Sphere from the Ground, and speaking of a woman who reportedly resides there and has witnessed people cross between the two worlds. This guidance sets Rudo on his next major mission. As a leader, he is shown to be protective of his subordinates, refusing to hand Rudo over to outside pressure and taking responsibility for the team's safety.
His key relationships are primarily defined by his position as the boss of the Cleaners. While he is personally close enough with members like Enjin, who openly acknowledges his leadership, a certain distance remains due to his secretive nature. He respects the abilities and contributions of his team members and is quick to recognize useful skills, as he did with Rudo. However, the fact that he keeps his own past and true intentions hidden from everyone, including his closest allies, shapes all of his interactions. His development in the narrative is less about a personal change and more about the gradual revelation of his mysterious nature and his influence on the world and other characters, particularly Rudo.
The most notable aspect of Corvus is his abilities. Specifically, his Vital Instrument, the source of a Giver's power, is the central and most compelling mystery surrounding him. It has never been seen or revealed to any of the other Cleaners, and he deliberately keeps it hidden. This secrecy has led to significant speculation, with the most prominent theory being that his small white gloves are not his Jinki but rather a tool to contain a far more dangerous or uncontrollable power. A scene in the source material hints at this, as he shows horror at the prospect of not wearing them. This suggests that his true power could be immense and potentially connected to the larger secrets of the world of Gachiakuta, making his hidden Vital Instrument one of the series' most intriguing points of suspense.
