TV-Series
Description
Ky Kiske is a former commander of the Sacred Order of Holy Knights and the founding king of the United Kingdoms of Illyria. During the century-long Crusades, he distinguished himself as a prodigious swordsman and a charismatic leader, rising to the rank of captain by the age of sixteen. His early life was marked by a deep-seated hatred for Gears after his mother was killed in the conflict, but his worldview was fundamentally challenged when he encountered the Gear Dizzy, who sought peace rather than destruction. This meeting set him on a path of re-evaluating his rigid sense of justice and eventually led him to fall in love with her.
On a personal level, Ky is straightforward, sincere, and completely devoted to his duties and his moral code. He possesses a powerful sense of justice and an almost exaggerated desire to protect the weak, which has made him a respected and beloved ruler. That same devotion can tip into an excessive dislike for anything that disrupts rules and order, and even in his maturity as a king, there remains a streak of impulsiveness that can surface when his emotions are stirred. He believes that justice should encompass all beings and that peaceful coexistence between humans and Gears is the only path forward, a conviction that defines his public and private life.
In the series, Ky and Dizzy’s official wedding ceremony serves as a monumental act intended to break the ultimate taboo and demonstrate that harmony between their two worlds is possible. The ceremony is violently interrupted by a mysterious girl named Unika, who attacks Dizzy and, in the ensuing struggle, freezes Ky and his bride. For a significant portion of the story, Ky remains frozen and unable to act directly, yet his ideals and his relationship with his son Sin become the emotional and moral pillars of the narrative. When he is later restored, he joins the final battle, fighting alongside his family and allies to defeat the malevolent future version of Nerville Hammer and restore peace.
Ky’s key relationships are central to his role. His lifelong rivalry with Sol Badguy, once a fierce ideological conflict, has matured into a deep mutual trust, and Sol becomes a crucial mentor to Ky’s son. His marriage to Dizzy is the fulcrum of his personal transformation, teaching him that love and understanding can bridge the gap between human and Gear. His bond with his son Sin, once strained by Ky’s guilt and distance, grows into a close family connection as both father and son fight for the same cause. He also shares a comradely respect with allies like Leo Whitefang and a willingness to cooperate with former adversaries such as the Valentines.
Ky’s growth from a zealous, rule-bound knight who saw Gears only as enemies to a king who champions coexistence represents one of the series’ most profound arcs. The revelation that Dizzy could live in peace forced him to question his own biases, and the love that followed reshaped his identity from a commander who merely gave orders to a ruler who leads by example. In the anime, his steadfast belief in a shared future is the symbolic core of the wedding and the ultimate triumph over the forces that seek to reignite the hatred of the past.
In combat, Ky is a master swordsman whose primary weapon is the Thunderseal, one of the eight sacred treasures. He is skilled in magic and can manipulate all elements, but he favors lightning for its nobility and challenge while disliking fire magic, partly due to his rivalry with Sol. His fighting style is precise, balanced, and versatile, allowing him to control space with elegant sword strikes and projectiles that can place opponents in a shock state. When pushed to his limits, he can enter a transformed state known as Dragon Install, which dramatically enhances his special moves. This disciplined yet adaptive approach to battle reflects the same blend of conviction and flexibility that defines his character.
