Taku Kei hails from Furou Village in Qin. Married with six children, his eldest is a daughter and his youngest a son. Before military service, he farmed. Initially a 5-man squad leader in the Qin army, his squad endured ridicule as the weakest, yet he maintained a flawless record: never losing a single soldier under his command. He first appears during the Keiyou Campaign, leading the squad assigned to oversee Ri Shin, Kyou Kai, Bi Hei, and Bi Tou – grouped as "leftovers." He stressed the vital importance of comrades entrusting their lives to one another. At the Battle of Dakan Plains against Wei General Go Kei's forces, Taku Kei ordered his men to stay within ten steps, fighting as a cohesive unit to cover blind spots. He personally saved Bi Hei from a Wei soldier. Witnessing Shin's extraordinary battlefield actions, Taku Kei recognized Shin as fundamentally different. He survived by helping build makeshift barricades from corpses, Kyou Kai's strategy, reaching the summit with only 46 survivors from his original unit. After Keiyou, Taku Kei returned to farming but was conscripted again during the Zhao invasion. He bid farewell to his family and joined the newly formed Hi Shin Unit under Ri Shin. At the Battle of Bayou, General Ouki personally assigned the Hi Shin Unit a flanking mission to assassinate Zhao General Fuu Ki, bestowing their name. Taku Kei supported Shin during the operation, urging him to leave slower members behind to advance on Fuu Ki. This began his long-term affiliation with the Hi Shin Unit. Taku Kei continued as a veteran infantry soldier through subsequent campaigns, including the Coalition Invasion and battles in Zhao. Promoted to 300-man commander, he led his own squad within the unit. His experience and reliability made him one of the oldest veterans, present since the unit's inception as a 100-man force. He participated in critical engagements like the Battle of Kankoku Pass, seen carrying an unconscious comrade and surviving with unit assistance. Physically, Taku Kei is a middle-aged man with black hair and a meek appearance belying his battlefield experience. Quiet and observant, he developed deep respect for Shin after witnessing his combat and leadership. Kyou Kai notes he talks in his sleep. He is portrayed as a dependable soldier prioritizing squad cohesion and survival.
