Description
Chloe is a character from the anime Once Upon a Witch's Death, introduced as the Witch of Words and a member of the Seven Sages. Her background is distinctive, as she is revealed to be a secret half-spirit, a human-spirit hybrid who cannot use magic in the traditional sense. Because of her unique nature and status, she employs an assistant named Wendy, who serves as her body double to keep Chloe's true identity and real appearance protected. During the festival held every twenty years, Chloe is first encountered while seeking her servant, where she meets the protagonist, Meg, and they spend time enjoying the event together. Their interaction highlights a humorous chemistry, although Meg's often overbearing ego also affects Chloe as it does other characters. As a member of the Seven Sages, Chloe holds a significant role in the magical world's governance and events. Her inability to use magic like a typical witch, combined with her half-spirit lineage and the precaution of using a body double, suggests a need for protection due to her vulnerable position within the story's political and magical structure. While her primary ability appears to be tied to her title as Witch of Words, her most notable trait is the management of her identity and her relationship with her body double, Wendy, ensuring her real self remains hidden and safe. Throughout the narrative, Chloe's character development is closely tied to her interactions with Meg and the unfolding plans of the Council, particularly the Planet's Core Project, which aims to save the Earth's connection to the magical world.
