TV-Series
Description
Eiji Hasegawa serves as the vice-captain of the First Division of the Defense Force, the division recognized as the strongest and most elite. He is characterized by an imposing physical presence; he stands 210 centimeters tall with a bald head and a muscular build that towers over most other characters. His face features prominent red eyes and a large scar over his left eye, with additional scars visible on the sides of his head and along his jaw, all of which serve as unspoken evidence of his extensive combat experience.

In terms of personality, Eiji is a highly professional and formal individual who approaches his duties with the utmost seriousness. He possesses a calm, strict, and inflexible demeanor on the job, which earns him deep respect from his subordinates and peers across other divisions. This no-nonsense attitude frequently puts him at odds with his own captain, Gen Narumi, whose childish and irresponsible behavior contrasts sharply with Eiji's disciplined nature. Eiji is not afraid to directly confront or even physically chastise his captain to maintain order and discipline within the unit. Essentially, he functions as the anchor for the First Division, compensating for his captain's eccentricities.

Eiji's primary motivation is the successful execution of his duties and the safety of his team. He takes his leadership role seriously and carries the heavy responsibility of managing the First Division, often taking command during battles to allow Captain Narumi to move freely and focus on fighting. He is a key figure in major operations, such as neutralizing massive kaiju in Kawasaki and Shinagawa, and is present during high-level meetings concerning critical matters like the transfer of Kafka Hibino or the deployment of Numbers Weapons users.

His most significant relationship is with Captain Gen Narumi. Despite Narumi holding the higher rank, the dynamic between the two is built on a foundation of mutual trust and equality. Eiji handles the majority of the managerial and leadership duties, keeping the unit cohesive and functional, while Narumi focuses on his specialized combat role. This partnership is effective because it relies on respect rather than a strict hierarchy. Eiji also maintains a professional relationship with other officers, including Kikoru Shinomiya, whom he formally introduces to the First Division, and Soshiro Hoshina, the vice-captain of the Third Division, who regards him with clear respect.

Throughout the story, Eiji's role remains consistent as a reliable and powerful leader. While he does not undergo a dramatic personal transformation, his value as the steadfast pillar of the First Division becomes increasingly clear. He is continuously shown handling logistical and command responsibilities, briefing his captain on new threats, and representing the division in inter-divisional conferences. His development is reflected in the growing trust that other characters place in his judgment and capabilities.

Regarding his abilities, Eiji is an immensely powerful combatant, a necessity for his position in the strongest division. His primary skills are leadership and command; he directs the First Division's movements during combat, issuing orders with authority and firmness to ensure tactical success. For personal combat, he wears the standard Defense Force combat suit but is also equipped with large, stocky battle armor that features mounted machine guns on the shoulders, giving him significant firepower on the battlefield. He also utilizes a respirator mask as part of his combat gear.
