Description
Kaiju No. 10 is a formidable and highly intelligent identified monster introduced as a major antagonist. Its physical form is a muscular, humanoid creature that stands approximately five meters tall and resembles a Western knight clad in crimson, armor-like carapace. This armored shell is noted to be even tougher than that of Kaiju No. 8. Its face is dominated by a single large eye, concealed beneath a scar-like lid in the shape of a cross, and its mouth contains two rows of teeth, with sharp fangs overlaying flatter, grinding molars. An ability to command lesser monsters is housed within a special organ behind the eyelid. When entering a state of gigantification, its body swells to a towering 25 meters, it grows a beetle-like horn from its head, and its entire form becomes covered in eyes, eliminating any blind spots.
In terms of personality, Kaiju No. 10 is defined by an extreme and prideful love for combat. It is not a mindless beast but possesses a sharp, tactical mind and the ability to speak, setting it apart from ordinary monsters. Its primary motivation is to seek out and challenge the strongest possible opponents, entering a state of exhilaration when facing a worthy foe. This drive is so pure that it overrides any sense of allegiance; it cares little whether its enemy is human or monster, as long as the battle is thrilling. Despite a preference for single combat, it can command a swarm of Wyvern-type monsters through sheer force of presence, compelling them to follow its orders and even perform suicidal attacks. Even when near defeat, its immense pride prevents it from acknowledging loss, instead claiming a draw.
Its role in the story begins dramatically when it leads an aerial assault on the Tachikawa Base of the Defense Force's Third Division. It immediately identifies Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina as the strongest opponent on the field and engages him in a brutal, destructive duel. This battle forms the core of its narrative function, pushing the vice-captain to his absolute limits. Following its defeat by a coordinated effort from Soshiro Hoshina, Kikoru Shinomiya, and Captain Mina Ashiro, its remains, specifically its still-conscious head, are recovered and contained.
Its key relationship is undoubtedly with Soshiro Hoshina. What begins as a rivalry born from combat evolves into a unique partnership. Impressed by Hoshina's skill, Kaiju No. 10 willingly offers information about its creator, Kaiju No. 9, on the condition that its body is weaponized and wielded by the vice-captain. This leads to its development into the Identified Kaiju Weapon No. 10, a dark-grey scaly combat suit worn by Hoshina, making it the first monster weapon to retain its own consciousness and will. Its relationship with its creator, Kaiju No. 9, is that of a prototype and a test subject, a connection it is willing to betray for the sake of its own desires.
Its development arc is remarkable, transforming from a primary threat into a semi-cooperative, albeit volatile, asset. Initially a pure antagonist bent on destruction, it later becomes an unconventional ally. Even after being converted into Numbers Weapon 10, its rebellious and confrontational nature persists, creating a dynamic with Hoshina similar to an unwilling symbiosis where its brutal fighting style often clashes with the vice-captain's calculated tactics, yet they eventually learn to synchronize effectively in battle.
Kaiju No. 10 possesses an array of notable abilities. Its combat power is immense, with a measured fortitude level of 8.3 that spikes to 9.0 when it fully unleashes its strength and grows in size. Its physical attacks are devastating; a flick of its finger can generate a shockwave to shatter distant buildings, and its rapid, powerful punches have been likened to meteor strikes. A high-speed regeneration allows it to quickly reattach or regrow lost limbs. Its most distinctive ability is gigantification, which not only amplifies its strength and durability but also allows it to shapeshift, growing additional appendages and covering its body in eyes for an omnidirectional field of vision. Furthermore, it can emit sonar-like signals to control other monsters, using them as extensions of its will in combat.
