Description
Fighter XX is a character from the anime Go! Go! Loser Ranger! who initially appears as a new cadet within the Ranger Force. This seeming recruit is actually a monster in disguise, a remnant of the invading force that was defeated by the Divine Dragon Rangers thirteen years prior to the story's start. As one of the surviving foot soldiers, Fighter XX was not killed in the final battle but was instead captured and imprisoned, eventually being brought to the surface to live under the Rangers' oppressive control. Rather than participate in the weekly staged battles where monsters are forced to lose publicly for the sake of entertainment, Fighter XX is kept within the Rangers' training facility, residing directly in the room of Hibiki Sakurama, a cadet who is also the brother of the Pink Keeper.
In terms of personality, Fighter XX displays a complex blend of traits. Having retained the innate bellicose nature common to monsters, Fighter XX is also capable of forming genuine attachments, particularly towards Hibiki, who provided a degree of kindness and humane treatment. This has resulted in a sense of loyalty and concern for his well-being, with Fighter XX asking Fighter D, who is impersonating Hibiki, if he is still alive. Fighter XX is also shown to have a cautious and critical side. While initially hopeful that the arrival of Fighter D, another disguised monster, represented outside reinforcements, Fighter XX quickly became disappointed upon realizing that D came from a floating castle where other surrendering monsters were kept. Fighter XX views those monsters who submitted to the Rangers as cowards who had abandoned their pride, creating a considerable initial distrust between the two characters. However, this wariness is tempered by an underlying appreciation for D's fighting spirit and determination. The character is also portrayed as somewhat feral and untamed, with a formidable presence that has caught the attention of other characters, including Fighter D, who seems to hold a certain admiration for this fierce nature.
The primary motivation for Fighter XX is survival and a desire to break free from the subjugation imposed by the Divine Dragon Rangers. Having been stripped of freedom and dignity, forced to hide its true form, the character resents the Rangers and the system that uses monsters as disposable props. The connection to Hibiki adds a personal layer to this motivation, as Fighter XX appears to value the individual who offered protection. The character's role in the story is that of a wild card and a potential ally for Fighter D's mission to destroy the Ranger Force from within. Although initially distrustful, Fighter XX stands as another monster who has refused to be a passive victim. The character represents the broader monstrous population that still possesses the will to fight back, even if their methods are constrained by their circumstances. During a confrontation with the Blue Keeper, Fighter XX attempted to assist Fighter D, a show of solidarity that resulted in being captured and tortured by the Ranger, who sought information about Fighter D's true identity. This event highlights both the growing, if tentative, alliance between the two fighters and the brutal reality of the Rangers' methods, as even those suspected of sympathy are treated with extreme cruelty.
Fighter XX undergoes a significant character arc centered on trust and allegiance. Initially defined by a cynical and solitary struggle for existence, the character begins to recognize a kinship with other defiant monsters like Fighter D. The shared experience of being considered worthless cannon fodder creates the foundation for a complex relationship that evolves from suspicion to a fragile cooperative dynamic. Fighter XX's development is also tied to the human Hibiki, whose decency seems to have challenged the character's worldview that all humans and Rangers are irredeemably cruel. The true fate of both Fighter XX and the real Hibiki remains a point of suspense in the narrative, as a significant amount of time passes without a clear confirmation of what happened to them after their encounter with the Blue Keeper.
In terms of notable abilities, Fighter XX possesses several powers common to monsters, such as shapeshifting. This skill is used to mimic the appearance of a young human girl in order to live incognito within the Ranger facility. The character also has a degree of superhuman resilience and combat capability, as evidenced by a willingness to challenge both Fighter D and Ranger officers. Fighter XX is not a powerless victim but an active threat, referred to by some as a "feral monstress," capable of violence and possessing a strong survival instinct that makes it a dangerous opponent even against a Divine Dragon Ranger.
