Description
Nayeh Chiffonritz is a high-ranking wizard who originally served as a mage in the Borhate army. She first appears as an antagonist during the Hidden Furnace arc, where she serves as a subordinate under General Dorel. After Dorel is defeated, she is reassigned by the king to become a magic instructor. Despite her elevated status and considerable magical talent, Nayeh is defined by an overwhelming cowardice; her primary motivation in every situation is her own survival, and she goes to great lengths to avoid danger. This self‑preserving instinct is exacerbated after she discovers the true identity of the boy Klen, learning that he is actually the demon beast king Clevatess. The revelation traumatizes her, and she spends the rest of the story trying to stay as far away from him and his companions as possible, though her efforts are consistently thwarted by an uncanny streak of bad luck.
Nayeh’s chief ability is magnetic magic, which she channels through a crystal embedded in her forehead. She can attract or repulse iron objects at will, a power derived from a large, iron‑shelled turtle that once inhabited the eastern regions. In combat, she hurls iron axes and uses magnetic forces on metal gauntlets to achieve a crude form of flight, allowing her to reposition quickly. Her magnetic control is strong enough to stop a charging bull and exerts pressure equivalent to two bulls when she pins an opponent. Despite this impressive capability, her reluctance to fight and her tendency to flee undermine her effectiveness as a soldier.
In terms of role, Nayeh transitions from an enemy mage to an unwilling and often comedic burden on the main party. After being defeated by Klen, she is forced to serve as his personal flying mount, carried through the air against her will. This humiliation continues into her later position as a magic teacher, a job she resents but cannot escape. Her relationship with Klen is one of abject terror and resentment; she is acutely aware that crossing him could mean her death, yet her constant attempts to slip away only lead to more entanglement. With other characters, she maintains a defensive, cautious demeanor, interacting only when necessary and always with an eye toward self‑preservation.
Over the course of the story, Nayeh shows little change in her core personality. She remains a clever but unlucky character whose deep‑seated fear of Clevatess and desire for a quiet life are constantly undermined by circumstances. Her development is largely situational: she is forced into roles she never wanted, and her magical prowess is repeatedly put to use in ways that benefit others despite her own protests. This tension between her power and her cowardice marks her as a memorable figure within the narrative.
