Hilde Dickaut is a character from the Emerald Witch Arc. She serves as a high-ranking officer in the German military holding the rank of Major, and operates as the surrogate leader of the isolated village of Wolfsschlucht. Her primary role is that of a caretaker and supervisor for the young prodigy Sieglinde Sullivan, all under the covert banner of the Emerald Witch Education Project.

In her public persona within the village, Hilde disguises herself as a local villager. During this time, she wears her long blonde hair styled beneath an elaborate headdress and dresses in an ornate but old-fashioned gown meant to mimic the centuries-old attire of the region's inhabitants, complete with a large amulet around her neck. When this pretense is no longer necessary, she discards the costume to dress in her formal German military uniform.

Hilde is characterized by a wary, stern, and bellicose personality. She is deeply skeptical of unfamiliar individuals, such as Ciel Phantomhive and his household upon their arrival in Wolfsschlucht, and her immediate preference is to eliminate intruders quickly rather than negotiate or consider compromises. As a military officer, she demonstrates remarkable leadership, discipline, and a stringent nature, never hesitating to issue ruthless orders to protect the secrecy and success of her mission.

Her motivations are rooted in her duty to the German military and the protection of the clandestine project involving Sieglinde. She is fiercely committed to maintaining the facade of the village as a haven for witches and to preventing any outsiders from discovering the truth. This commitment extends to a willingness to eliminate Sieglinde herself if the young girl becomes a liability or attempts to escape with the project's secrets, viewing the success of the operation as paramount over individual lives.

Hilde's key relationships are primarily professional. She works closely with Wolfram Gelzer, whom she commands as a Lieutenant, though in their disguised village roles she addresses him with feigned respect. She also leads two other military operatives, Grete Hilbard and Anne Drewanz, who pose as village women to assist with cooking and Sieglinde's care. Her relationship with Sieglinde is that of a caretaker and warden, having been present for many years including the day Sieglinde was officially named the Emerald Witch, yet she ultimately views the girl as an asset to be controlled or terminated.

Within the story, Hilde initially acts as a hostil gatekeeper to the village, confronting the intruders and pressuring Wolfram to expel them. As Ciel and Sebastian uncover the truth behind the werewolf legends and the toxic gas factory beneath the Emerald Castle, Hilde abandons her village disguise to lead a direct military assault. She commands a Panzer tank in a deadly attack against the group, demonstrating her willingness to use overwhelming force. After surviving the destruction of her tank, she sustains grave injuries and a disfigured left eye. In a final act of ruthless dedication, she shoots Wolfram for his betrayal and prepares to execute Sieglinde, only to be killed by Sebastian.

There is little to no character development or redemption arc for Hilde. She remains a steadfast and uncompromising antagonist from her introduction to her death. Her defining moments show her transitioning from a deceptive guardian to an open and aggressive combatant, but her core beliefs and objectives do not change. In terms of abilities, Hilde is a capable military strategist and leader, proficient with firearms, and able to command heavy artillery such as a tank. However, she has no supernatural powers and is ultimately no match for a demon like Sebastian, who easily evades her gunfire and destroys her armored vehicle.
