Description
Hibachi Shinmon is a character from the manga and anime series Fire Force. He is introduced as the former Fire Chief of the Asakusa district, a role he held before the establishment of the Special Fire Force Company 7. Hibachi is a man of advanced age, born on January 8th, and stands 177 centimeters tall. He is the adoptive father and master of Benimaru Shinmon, who would later become the captain of Company 7, as well as the mentor of Konro Sagamiya. His wife passed away without bearing him a biological heir, and his deep love for her led him to refuse to remarry or have children with anyone else.

In his youth, Hibachi was unofficially responsible for handling fire-related disasters and destroying Infernals in Asakusa, personally slaying 278 of them while his team laid to rest over nine thousand more. His strength and dedication earned him both the profound respect and fear of the townspeople. Hibachi was a notoriously strict and demanding individual, especially towards his adopted son, Benimaru. This harshness was not born of cruelty but of a deep-seated desire to prepare Benimaru for the immense burden of leadership. He believed that only a knucklehead, someone who could act without being paralyzed by rational thought, was fit to lead Asakusa. The reason for this was the terrible weight of killing Infernals, whom Hibachi still saw as the tormented souls of his fellow citizens. He bore immense guilt for the lives he had taken, and he wanted Benimaru to develop the resolve to carry that same burden without being destroyed by it, even if it meant becoming a monster in the process. Hibachi was also a man of strong personal conviction, believing that the person who kills an Infernal bears full responsibility for that act, regardless of any prayers offered by the Holy Sol Temple.

Hibachi met his end not in battle against an Infernal, but at the hands of a child. After he was forced to destroy the Infernal that had been the boy's mother, the child later stabbed Hibachi in the back as an act of revenge. In his final moments, Hibachi did not condemn the boy, accepting his fate and acknowledging the twisted logic of a world where his own necessary killings were condoned while the child's act of vengeance was not. Despite his death, Hibachi's influence remained a driving force behind Benimaru's actions and his protection of Asakusa.

Later in the series, during the events of the Great Cataclysm, a doppelgänger of Hibachi Shinmon is manifested from Adolla, the world of human ideals. This entity is a being of immense power, a Demon Infernal that possesses all of the original Hibachi's memories, combat experience, and mastery over his unique fire-based martial art. This doppelgänger, embodying the fearsome reputation and strength of the former chief, confronts Benimaru in a monumental battle that pushes the younger man to his limits. Following the resolution of the Great Cataclysm, Shinra Kusakabe uses his ability to manipulate time and rearrange reality, an event which ultimately results in the original Hibachi Shinmon being restored to life.

Hibachi was a formidable Third Generation pyrokinetic who created the Iai Hand-Sword style, a martial art that he later taught to his pupil. This style utilizes precise, powerful strikes enhanced by flames, and it was so potent that Hibachi could overwhelm a young Benimaru with minimal effort. The complete system consists of seven forms, including techniques such as Fire Moon, Moonlight, Daybreak, Red Sun, Sunset, Dusk, and the final technique, Sun Wheel. His creation and mastery of this combat style cemented his legendary status in Asakusa, with his abilities earning him a renown that persisted long after his death.
