Description
Pingua is an albatross beastman with a tan complexion, pink eyes, pinned white hair featuring a maroon mullet, and a chin beard. He typically wears a red leather flight jacket, red and white striped pants, and brown boots. His albatross form features arms transforming into white wings with black edges and a yellow beak tipped in black.

Defined by a free-spirited and adventurous nature, Pingua shows strong aversion to regulations and rules. He refuses to comply with the Japanese government's demand to land and complete entry requirements after invading airspace, citing his status as a protected migratory species under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, though authorities clarify this protection excludes beastmen. He values personal freedom and resists restriction.

His background includes participation in a youth military group fighting anti-beastmen radicals. Disillusionment set in when he realized achieving equal rights required conformity to human laws, conflicting with his ancestral tradition of unrestricted flight. This led him toward radical actions, including associations with terrorist ideologies aimed at protecting beastmen autonomy. His story begins when he crashes into Michiru Kagemori's room in Anima City during a storm while evading human pursuers. He befriends her, sharing his family's legacy of free flight and mentioning fallen comrades, then gives Michiru an aerial tour before departing.

Shirou Ogami suspects Pingua harbors harmful intentions toward Anima City due to albatross beastmen oppression. During a confrontation, Shirou detects weapons in Pingua's backpack, obtained from an associate at a bar. After a chase and Michiru's intervention, Pingua is defeated. He admits his past military involvement and radical leanings. Shirou allows him to leave Anima City on condition he never returns. Before departing, Pingua requests Michiru ask Mayor Barbara Rose to create graves for his deceased friends and assists in defeating the hitman Meteor so Shirou can apprehend him.

Pingua later reappears during a crisis in Anima City, aiding in rescuing innocent children caught in the conflict, highlighting his underlying commitment to protecting others despite his nomadic lifestyle. Thematically, Pingua embodies the tension between assimilation and freedom. His experiences illustrate how "equality" can impose conformity, stripping beastmen of inherent rights to migrate and exist freely, emphasized through his dialogue about the bittersweet cost of societal integration.
