Description
Iruma Takumi is the central character of the story. Before being transported to another world, he lived an ordinary life as a salaryman in Japan, around forty years old. His life changed unexpectedly when he was accidentally caught in a summoning spell meant to bring heroes to the fantasy world of Mildgard. Unlike the intended heroes, his summoning was a mistake. The goddess Nolyn, who oversees Mildgard, informed him that he could not return to his own world. To compensate for this error, she resurrected him in a new, youthful teenage body and bestowed upon him powerful blessings, most notably a unique and potent Alchemy skill.
In terms of appearance, Takumi is depicted as a teenager with a lean build that contrasts with his mature and composed demeanor. He has medium-length silver hair, which is often slightly tousled, giving him a casual yet refined appearance, and deep brown eyes that convey both warmth and determination. His attire is practical and comfortable for his dual life as an adventurer and alchemist, consisting of tunics, trousers, and cloaks, often equipped with various tools and materials for his craft.
Personality-wise, Takumi is characterized by a fundamental desire for a peaceful, quiet life. He originally wished to avoid conflict and take up a production-oriented profession, which is why he valued the alchemy skill he was given. He is a kind individual who is inclined to help those in need, which is shown when he aids a young girl in danger shortly after arriving in Mildgard. He also has a tendency to become deeply engrossed in his hobbies, such as alchemy and blacksmithing, sometimes to the point of negatively affecting his health. A significant psychological change occurs within him after his resurrection. While his former self in Japan held a strong aversion to killing, the physical reconstruction of his body by the goddess removed this emotional inhibition. Consequently, when forced to defend himself or others, he experiences little to no internal resistance towards taking a life. His demeanor becomes notably shy and flustered when confronted with topics involving women or romantic situations.
Takumi's primary motivation is to establish a safe and comfortable life for himself using his crafting abilities. He first settles in Bord Village, a small community where he befriends the locals and helps improve their quality of life. Seeking greater knowledge and resources for his craft, he eventually moves to the larger city of Bolton. There, he registers with the Adventurer's Guild and begins selling his high-quality potions, quickly gaining a reputation. His inventions, such as advanced sewage systems for toilets and magically expanded carriages, attract significant commercial and political attention. Despite his preference for peace, his growing power and unique creations draw unwanted interest from the Holy Sidonia Empire, which eventually leads him to become the ruler of a new town he builds called Wedgefort.
Key relationships profoundly shape his journey. His connection with Goddess Nolyn is foundational, as she provides him with overwhelming blessings, guidance, and protection. His first true companion in Mildgard is Maple, a Poison Spider he healed and tamed. Maple, who later evolves into a powerful Arachne, becomes a loyal familiar and invaluable ally. He also forms a family by purchasing and then freeing two slaves, the elf Sofia Sylphide and a woman named Maria, both of whom become his trusted companions and eventually his wives. Another key figure is Godwin Bolton, the guild master who recognizes Takumi's lack of practical combat experience and subjects him to rigorous hand-to-hand training. He also develops a crucial business relationship with Papek, a merchant who helps him settle in Bolton and sells his revolutionary products.
Notable abilities form the core of his role in the story. His most defining skill is Alchemy, granted by the goddess Nolyn, which allows him to perform various sub-skills such as Decompose, Synthesis, and Recompose. This ability allows him to create anything from powerful potions and holy swords to enchanted carriages and entire buildings. He also possesses the Divine Protection of Goddess Norn, a blessing that allows him to evolve and grow in strength at an abnormal speed compared to the inhabitants of Mildgard. In addition to alchemy, he is proficient in a wide array of other skills, including Blacksmithing, Carpentry, Woodworking, and Spearmanship. He can wield several types of magic, including Light Magic (with spells like Heal and Purification), Fire, Water, Wind, and Earth Magic, and even the rare Space-Time Magic. His unique skills include Appraise and a massive Item Box.
Throughout the story, Iruma Takumi develops from a middle-aged salaryman seeking a quiet retirement into a powerful and influential figure in his new world. While his core desire for a peaceful life remains, his sense of responsibility grows as he protects his village, his expanding family, and his territory. He establishes the adventurer party "Wings of Nolyn" with his companions and uses his unique talents not just for personal comfort but to defend his new home from monsters, rival heroes summoned by the Sidonia Empire, and political machinations, ultimately accepting a leadership role he never sought.
