TV-Series
Description
Masao Himejima is a third-year student at Osaka Academy and the head of the third dormitory, which houses the school’s artistic and intelligent students. He is also the captain of the drama club. Masao is an extreme narcissist with a theatrical and flamboyant personality, and he insists on being called Oscar, a name he takes from the character in the manga and anime The Rose of Versailles, of which he is a devoted fan. He speaks with dramatic flair, often inserting random German phrases into his speech, and his appearance is equally striking: he wears colored contact lenses and keeps his hair long and dyed. He is obsessed with beauty and presents himself as a half-Japanese, though he is in fact fully Japanese and born and raised in Japan. His behavior is consistently over-the-top and melodramatic, and he loves being the center of attention.
Despite his intense vanity, Masao has a serious side that emerges when necessary, such as when the dormitory heads confront the truth about Mizuki Ashiya’s disguise. He takes his role as a dormitory leader seriously, and his devotion to the dramatic arts gives him a creative and commanding presence. He is part of the rivalry among the three dormitories and, upon Mizuki’s arrival, he tries to recruit her for his own dormitory, seeing her as a valuable addition. His key relationships are with the other dormitory leaders and the rest of the student body, whom he treats as an audience for his performances. Over the course of the series, Masao remains primarily a comic figure, but his loyalty to his dorm and his appreciation for artistry show a more nuanced side. His notable abilities include his leadership of the drama club, his skill for theatrical expression, and his talent for commanding a room with his forceful personality.
