Description
Fumizuki, also known as Wei Fumizuki, is a character from the story of Arknights who plays a significant supporting role in the events of the anime Arknights: RISE FROM EMBER. She is a politician of notable standing, originally a princess from the Far East region known as Higashi before marrying Wei Yenwu, the leader of the nomadic city of Lungmen. Having relocated to Lungmen following their marriage, she serves not only as his wife but also as one of his most trusted advisors and a powerful political ally. Despite having no biological children of her own, she has played a maternal role in raising her nieces, Ch'en and Talulah, after they lost their mother.

In terms of personality, Fumizuki presents a calm and elegant exterior that belies her formidable inner strength and sharp intelligence. While she often appears delicate and composed, she possesses a great deal of political acumen and a clear-eyed view of the complicated situations Lungmen faces. She acts as a tempering influence on her husband, whose methods can be ruthlessly pragmatic. Although she is generally gentle and respectful towards Wei Yenwu, she is not afraid to confront him directly when she disagrees with his decisions, particularly when those decisions involve sacrificing individuals for the perceived greater good. In moments of deep frustration, she can drop her serene demeanor entirely and express her anger with surprising force, even resorting to swearing in her native Far Eastern tongue. This reveals a passionate and deeply caring nature that values the lives and well-being of those close to her above cold political calculation.

Fumizuki's primary motivation is to protect Lungmen and her family while trying to mediate between the rigid, often harsh political realities her husband upholds and her own sense of compassion. She consistently works to foster cooperation between Lungmen and Rhodes Island, seeing the pharmaceutical company as a trustworthy partner capable of handling the Infected crisis in a way that pure political maneuvering cannot. She particularly seeks to look after Ch'en, hoping to bridge the growing rift between her niece and her husband. Her deep care for her family drives many of her actions, as she attempts to prevent the mistakes of the past from repeating themselves and to protect the people she loves from the consequences of brutal political decisions.

Within the story, Fumizuki's role is that of a key political figure and a personal intermediary. She is frequently seen in the Lungmen Governor's office, managing communications and offering counsel to Wei Yenwu. When direct confrontation is not possible, she works behind the scenes, such as arranging for Rhodes Island to renew their contract with Lungmen or sending operators like Shirayuki to assist and keep an eye on Ch'en from afar. In the events of RISE FROM EMBER, her position becomes more fraught as she directly clashes with Wei Yenwu over his choices, opposing his willingness to accept certain casualties for the sake of avoiding a larger war. She stands as a voice for humanity and personal responsibility, arguing that some prices are too high to pay.

Her most significant relationship is with her husband, Wei Yenwu. She is his most steadfast supporter and the person he loves most, yet she is unafraid to challenge him, revealing a dynamic where the powerful city leader is often quite docile and accommodating towards his wife in private. Her relationship with Ch'en is maternal and caring; she raised Ch'en as her own daughter and feels a deep sense of responsibility for her happiness and safety, even when Ch'en has left Lungmen. She maintains a strong bond with her personal bodyguard, Shirayuki. Their relationship is unique, as Shirayuki was originally sent to assassinate Fumizuki but, after being defeated, chose to swear lifelong loyalty to her instead. Fumizuki treats Shirayuki with a familial warmth, affectionately calling her Yuki-chan.

Fumizuki's character development is subtle but significant. Initially appearing as a graceful background figure who supports her husband, she steps into a more active and confrontational role as the crisis deepens. Her development is marked by her willingness to openly defy Wei Yenwu's plans, showing that her loyalty to her principles and to human life ultimately outweighs her wifely deference. This evolution highlights her transition from a supportive partner to a more independent moral compass within the narrative, actively shaping events through her conviction rather than merely reacting to them.

Regarding her abilities, Fumizuki is not often seen in combat but is said to possess powerful Originium Arts, which she keeps hidden behind her seemingly fragile appearance. Her political resources and foresight are her primary weapons, allowing her to navigate complex diplomatic situations and outmaneuver opponents. She is also a surprisingly skilled motorcyclist, rumored to be a spectral figure on the winding roads of Lungmen, a hobby that contrasts sharply with her proper image. Additionally, concept art has revealed that she is adept at wielding a naginata, a traditional Japanese polearm, suggesting she is far from defenseless in a physical confrontation.
