Description
Hikari Myodo is the younger sister of the protagonist, Akina Myodo, and a central figure in the narrative of Cardfight!! Vanguard Divinez. A middle school student, Hikari has a weak constitution and has spent much of her life in and out of the hospital. Her birthday is January 22.
Despite her chronic illness, Hikari's personality is generally cheerful and excitable. She shares a playful relationship with her older brother, often teasing him, and maintains a positive outlook even when confined to a hospital bed. She has a strong interest in Cardfight!! Vanguard, frequently watching streams from the popular fighter Mikoto Saito and adjusting her own deck while hospitalized. Underneath this bright surface, however, Hikari harbors deep guilt, believing her poor health has forced Akina to sacrifice his own childhood to care for her, a feeling that becomes a major driving force for her actions.
Her role in the story is complex, involving two distinct versions of herself from different timelines. The present-day Hikari is the sickly sister whom Akina desperately wishes to save, which motivates his entry into the Fated Clash tournament. Simultaneously, an older, eighteen-year-old version of Hikari from a doomed future timeline appears as a mysterious figure wearing a fox mask. In her original future, Akina lost the Fated Clash to Suo Yobitsugi and was subsequently erased from existence. After searching for her brother for three years, this future Hikari won the next Fated Clash and used her wish to travel back in time to prevent his death.
This future Hikari is the owner of the Fated One of Time card, Liael−Amorta. Driven by trauma and desperate resolve, she tries to force Akina to forfeit the tournament, even considering physically restraining other participants. She initially conceals her identity, using a fox mask provided by the entity Gabwelius to disguise her voice and face. Her plan ultimately fails when a fight with Akina helps her learn to trust his abilities. After Akina wins the Fated Clash and wishes for her present self to be cured, the future Hikari begins to fade from existence but is sustained by the entity Sybilt.
Key relationships define her journey. Her bond with her brother Akina is the emotional core of her character, as she loves him dearly but also feels responsible for his burdens. She also develops a connection with the wealthy fighter Taizo Kiyokura, whom she approaches for help in her mission. Her relationship with her present self becomes a point of conflict in the second season, representing a confrontation between her past guilt and future regrets.
In terms of development, Hikari transitions from a passive, sickly girl to an active agent trying to rewrite fate. The future Hikari shows immense growth, moving from a cynical and desperate figure to one who accepts the new timeline she helped create. In the later story, after being corrupted by the entity Sybilt, the present Hikari's guilt is amplified, turning her bitter and resolved to use the Destined Showdown to travel back in time and prevent the accident that caused her illness in the first place. This leads to a confrontation where she must ultimately come to terms with her past and her place in the present.
As a Cardfighter, Hikari is remarkably skilled, having won a Fated Clash in her own timeline after three years away from the game. Her notable abilities are tied to her Fate card, Liael=Amorta, which has powers related to time, allowing her to manipulate the game state in ways that echo her desire to rewrite the past.
