Description
Hibana Kagari is the second magical girl to appear in the story, presenting a striking contrast to the gentle and timid nature of the previous magical girl, Byakuya Mimori. On the surface, she appears to be a cute young girl who loves adorable things, treating rabbit and bear dolls as if they were her friends. However, this innocent exterior conceals a rough, impulsive, and often aggressive personality.
Her behavior is dominated by a powerful tsundere tendency, where she struggles to express her true emotions, particularly when she feels embarrassed or shy. In such moments, she quickly resorts to extreme physical violence, even turning on her own mentor, the Bird Familiar, beating it until it bleeds. This lashing out is not born of hatred; rather, she does not actually dislike the familiar and is deeply grateful to it for choosing her. Her communication style is just as aggressive as her actions, as she frequently employs a string of vulgar words and crude gestures as a matter of course, with her interjections often punctuated by harsh profanity. Despite her apparent difficulty in communicating and her volatile nature, Hibana possesses a sharp mind. The words she speaks in rare, quiet moments can be surprisingly poignant and carry significant weight, often cutting to the core of an issue. She holds her own opinions firmly and cannot be easily swayed by others, demonstrating a strong, unyielding will.
Her background reveals that she has always aspired to be a magical girl, making her selection a dream come true for which she is thankful. Though she initially accepted the role at the request of the Bird Familiar, she has since decided to continue her duties as a magical girl of her own volition. Hibana's history is also intertwined with that of Byakuya Mimori, as the two were classmates in elementary school. Hibana genuinely considers Byakuya a friend. However, her method of expressing fondness is characteristically brutal, consisting of headbutts, lariats, and rough physical handling. While Hibana sees these actions as friendly greetings and displays of physical closeness, Byakuya is terrified of her and cannot fully accept the violent behavior as a sign of friendship.
In the story, Hibana acts as a foil to the more romantic plotline. Upon her introduction, she is initially seen as a hyper-violent force, even defeating the evil lieutenant Mira in a confrontation that allows him to regain his credibility. Yet her role evolves beyond simple brute force. When the Bird Familiar attempts to fire Mimori from her magical girl duties for her romantic involvement with the enemy, it is Hibana who speaks up. For once abandoning her usual profanity, she eloquently argues that it is unfair to punish Mimori for love, asserting that their duty as magical girls should be to protect it. This intervention successfully saves Mimori's position, showcasing the deep and compassionate insight that lies beneath Hibana’s rough exterior.
Physically, she has striking golden eyes and dark bluish-purple hair, which she keeps short in her civilian form. When she transforms into a magical girl, her hair grows long and is styled with a bun on the left side. She lives in a large mansion, suggesting a life of some comfort, and possesses noticeable fangs that become jagged when she bites. Her notable abilities rely on her immense physical strength; she is powerful enough to defeat the henchmen of evil organizations using only her bare hands or by biting them. Her physical aggression is not just for combat; it is an integral part of her everyday personality and a key way she interacts with the world around her.
