Description
Anghalhad, also known as Anne, is a noble girl from the town of Sistana who becomes a central member of the Percival Platoon and later a Holy Knight of the Kingdom of Liones. She is a young girl with long, wavy light cyan hair and turquoise eyes, though her appearance changes notably over the course of the story. She initially wears a long white ruffled dress with a magenta blouse, stockings, high heels, and carries a dotted umbrella that conceals a rapier. After the fight against Ironside, she cuts her hair shorter and adopts a more practical outfit consisting of a skirt, shirt, and jacket. Later, she receives a new outfit resembling Diane's, featuring an orange tank top. Two years after a significant time skip, Anghalhad has grown her hair back and now keeps it in a ponytail, wearing a short dark blue sleeveless dress, a brown corset belt bearing Percival's Ouroboros symbol, long matching socks, brown fingerless gloves, and yellowish boots.
Anghalhad's personality is defined by a deep-seated distrust of others, a trait that stems directly from her magical ability to see through lies and illusions. This power makes her inherently skeptical of people's intentions, whether they are strangers or not. She is highly ambitious and determined to stand up for herself, driven by a strong desire to become a Holy Knight like her mother before her, rather than allowing others to handle problems on her behalf. She resents being perceived as weak due to her gender and has shown visible anger when she believed someone was treating her as less capable for that reason. Despite her guarded and sometimes abrasive exterior, Anghalhad is a friendly and sensitive girl who genuinely cares for her companions. She possesses a strong temper and is easily irritated, but she is also deeply loyal and willing to attack or threaten those she perceives as threats to the greater good, as seen when she first confronted Percival's group believing they were working with the Holy Knight Ironside.
Having been trained by her Holy Knight mother, Anghalhad possesses remarkable skill with a rapier, demonstrating advanced speed and agility that allow her to overwhelm opponents with rapid thrusting attacks. Her signature technique, Squall Stinger, delivers several ultra-rapid swooping sword strikes to pierce an opponent in multiple places. She also participates in a coordinated Quartet Attack called Slash Squall alongside Percival, Donny, and Nasiens. Her primary magical ability is called Interrogator, which originally allowed her to see through lies and discern a person's true intentions. Her late mother claimed this power was a gift from God. After witnessing the death of a fellow knight named Jade, her magic transformed significantly: if a target knows the truth of a question but refuses to answer or lies to her, they are forcefully crushed to the ground. Later in the story, she wields a magical rapier called Mirage Stinger, created by Dubs, which can create afterimages of itself.
In the story, Anghalhad is introduced when Percival and his companions arrive in Sistana. She has hidden a piece of the Coffin of Eternal Darkness to prevent Ironside from claiming it. After a hostile initial encounter, she is surprised to discover that Percival possesses no deceit or hidden malice, a rarity that her power reveals immediately. Following a brutal battle against Ironside in which Percival is seemingly killed before miraculously reviving, Anghalhad decides to leave her home and join Percival's journey to become a Holy Knight. Throughout the subsequent arcs, she serves as a practical and often cautious voice within the group, frequently reprimanding Percival for his recklessness while also recognizing that his unguarded kindness is what draws people to him. She accompanies the group through the town of Cant, the Dalflare Range where they encounter a village of peaceful demons, and the Entangled Forest, where she confronts Sin about his perceived detachment from the group's struggles. After a two-year time skip, she has infiltrated Camelot on a mission to gather information about a prison called the Annwfyn Cauldron.
Anghalhad's key relationships are central to her character development. Her bond with Percival is particularly significant. Though she often scolds him for acting on impulse, she understands that his personality is what makes him who he is, whether he is dangerous or not, human or not. She was deeply moved to find someone completely without deceit, and her feelings for him developed slowly over time. After sharing a kiss and making an exclusive promise with him, she initially believed she felt only friendship, but her magic eventually forced her to confront the true romantic nature of her feelings. She shares a childhood friendship with her short-legged horse Sylvan, whom she considers her best friend despite his lack of speed or power compared to other horses. She develops a close friendship with Isolde, which formed quickly even after an unfortunate incident where Isolde accidentally pierced Anghalhad's arm and nearly killed her. Their deep connection is evident in intimate moments such as having tea together and discussing trivial matters. Her relationship with Nasiens is good, and she showed sensitivity by apologizing for kissing Percival in front of them, acknowledging that it must not have been pleasant given their shared feelings for him. With Gawain, her relationship evolves over time. While not particularly close when they were sixteen, by the time they are eighteen, Gawain considers Anghalhad among her dearest friends, though she also becomes more openly affectionate to the point of asking for kisses, which Anghalhad takes as harmless gestures.
Over the course of the narrative, Anghalhad undergoes significant development. She begins as a distrustful noble girl hiding behind her umbrella-sword, frustrated by her father's dismissive attitude toward her aspirations. After witnessing the death of Ardd, a Holy Knight who sacrificed himself to protect her, she struggles with grief and questions her own understanding of others' intentions. Her magic transforms after witnessing Jade's death, making her power more aggressive and punitive. The two-year time skip shows her as a more confident and capable operative, having grown her hair back and adopted a more mature appearance while remaining deeply loyal to her companions. Her journey reflects a gradual opening of her guarded heart while maintaining the sharp instincts and determination that have driven her from the beginning.
