Description
Bilac, also referred to in some sources as Biluck, is a non-player character from the world of Shangri-La Frontier. She is a highly skilled blacksmith and the eldest daughter of the royal family of the Vorpal Bunnies, making her the first princess of the hidden nation known as Rabbits. As a resident of this exclusive area, which few players can access without time limits, she serves as one of the primary craftspeople responsible for creating and maintaining most of the protagonist Sunraku's weapons and equipment. In terms of appearance, Bilac is an anthropomorphic rabbit whose fur, often described as black, is depicted as brown in the anime adaptation. She typically wears a sarashi, a strip of cloth wrapped around her torso, not for modesty but to prevent her abundant fur from catching fire while she works at the forge. Over this, she wears only the lower half of an orange jumpsuit held up by suspenders. When she removes the sarashi, her voluminous fur bursts out, which she has cleverly used as a disguise to pass for a human wearing a fur coat when traveling outside of Rabbits, as unlike her companion Emul, she cannot transform into a human form.
Bilac has a distinct and memorable personality, characterized by a tough, stubborn, and direct demeanor befitting a passionate artisan. She speaks with a dialect reminiscent of the Hiroshima region and uses unique pronouns, referring to herself as wachi and others as warja. While she is often exasperated by Sunraku's bizarre requests and reckless behavior, she is consistently drawn into his schemes and ultimately shares his enthusiasm for pushing the limits of her craft. She takes immense professional pride in her work and becomes irritated when asked to create simple or standard equipment, preferring instead to forge unique, complex, and high-risk weapons tailored specifically to Sunraku's unconventional fighting style. Her primary motivation is her dedication to the art of blacksmithing, and she holds her father, Vysache, the Divine Blacksmith and king of the Vorpal Bunnies, in the highest regard, almost to the point of fainting at the mere sight of him working. A significant part of her personal journey involves her desire to grow as a smith, initially holding the advanced Master class at level 98 and striving to meet the conditions to become an even rarer Ancient Blacksmith.
Within the story, Bilac plays a crucial role as Sunraku's personal armorer. Her abilities are extraordinary; she is capable of forging weapons and armor on the battlefield, adapting her creations in real-time to counter specific enemies with her hammer. She is responsible for crafting most of Sunraku's gear, often using legendary materials he retrieves from high-level monsters, such as those from the Giant Crystal Scorpion. A key plot point involves Sunraku needing her to repair a unique Ether Reactor, a task that requires the skills of an Ancient Blacksmith. Initially reluctant and feeling pressured by the comparison to her father, she agrees to pursue this class advancement after Sunraku reassures her of his faith in her abilities. Her key relationships are central to her character. Her dynamic with Sunraku, whom she nicknames the bird-man, is energetic and mutually beneficial; he constantly challenges her skills with impossible requests, and she provides him with the extraordinary equipment that defines his playstyle. She is also the object of intense, comedic, and unwanted affection from Aramis, a flamboyant Cait Sith swordsman, whose advances she finds deeply irritating and often responds to with violence. Bilac undergoes noticeable development, progressing from a master smith into the rare and powerful Ancient Blacksmith class. This evolution allows her to repair the Ether Reactor and craft even more potent gear, solidifying her status as one of the few NPCs who is not only tolerated but highly sought after by the player community for her unparalleled skills. Her notable abilities include her mastery of the forge, her unique class progression, and her tendency to design weapons so specialized that they are virtually unusable by anyone other than Sunraku, sometimes even convincing him that design flaws are intentional features.
