Description
Mele the Horizon's Roar is a member of the Gigant race, a species characterized by its extremely long lifespan and indestructible body, which typically requires no training or effort to sustain itself. However, Mele defies this norm by dedicating his entire existence to the single-minded pursuit of archery. He is one of the largest of his kind, with a frame that exceeds twenty meters in height, reaching the size of a small mountain, and his feet alone are said to measure over three times the height of a child. His physical appearance includes black hair and brown eyes.
For many years, Mele has served as the sole protector of the village of Sine Riverstead, acting as its guardian deity. On the surface, he appears lazy and gruff, and he is seen loafing around by those who do not understand his role. Despite this outward demeanor, he is profoundly generous and committed to the safety of the villagers who live in his shadow. The villagers, in turn, repay his protection by mining and forging gigantic iron pillars for him to use as arrows.
Mele's primary motivation is rooted in a promise made long, long ago to a weak and fragile Minia, the human-like race of the world. This vow drives him to hone his archery skills to a level of perfection that borders on the unreasonable. He finally gains the opportunity to demonstrate these skills on a grand stage by participating in the Sixways Exhibition, also known as the Royal Games, a tournament held in the city of Aureatia to determine the mightiest warrior, where he is sponsored by Cayon the Thundering.
In the story, Mele acts as a long-range, overwhelming force. His primary role in the tournament is demonstrated during the subjugation of Atrazek the Particle Storm, a massive and destructive worm. Using his unparalleled archery, he provides sniper support from his mountain home at Sine Riverstead, targeting the creature from an impossible distance. He relies on Kuuro the Cautious, a clairvoyant leprechaun, to provide him with the exact coordinates and movement patterns of his target. While his first shot misses due to incorrect coordinates, his subsequent shots, guided by correct information, are devastatingly accurate, severing the upper body of the worm and leaving it near death. His key relationship in this event is with Kuuro, whose clairvoyance complements Mele's marksmanship.
Regarding his development, Mele is a being who has already completed his journey of growth. He has spent his excessively long life pursuing a single skill, and the abilities he displays are the result of that ancient dedication. A notable change occurs during the seventh match of the tournament, where he loses his left eye. Even after this loss, his skill remains so profound that he is able to perform an extraordinary technique: firing countless arrows at a wyvern from the edge of the horizon while applying a distortion and twist to the arrows so they pass harmlessly over the city of Aureatia, causing no damage to the ground below, all with his remaining eye.
Mele's notable abilities are almost superhuman in scope, firmly establishing him as the ultimate archer. His immense physical strength allows him to launch arrows with the destructive force of a miniature meteor strike, capable of leveling large swathes of terrain, piercing bedrock, and even altering the landscape by carving new rivers or diverting landslides and flash floods away from Sine Riverstead. He possesses the apex of visual acuity; his enormous size grants him eyesight so powerful he can see past the edge of the horizon, where his targets would appear as little more than dust to normal vision. His accuracy is near-godly, able to unerringly target a location from miles away as long as he is provided with the coordinates. He can calculate the movement of a supersonic target and fire a deflection shot to its landing point. His arrows, requiring twelve adults to carry, are fired at speeds exceeding the speed of sound, making them impossible to block or evade. Furthermore, he can fire these star-piercing arrows in rapid succession, with his maximum shown burst being ten shots, though this is not confirmed to be his limit. While specializing in long-range combat, his twenty-meter frame moves with speed proportional to his immense strength, and his bow doubles as a colossal hammer, meaning he is not weak at close range.
