Description
Pokota is a tanuki, or Japanese raccoon dog, character from the anime film Wonderful Precure! The Movie! He is one of two tanuki brothers who live inside the popular video game world of Doki Doki Tanukingdom, and together with his partner Ponta the pair is known as the Ponpoko Brothers. Pokota is the slimmer and lankier of the two, while Ponta is rounder and fluffier. The brothers originate from a mysterious egg-shaped digital being called the Digital Tanuki Egg, which first appears in the human world and later splits open to reveal them. When the main characters gather to play Doki Doki Tanukingdom, the egg reappears, and the brothers pull the group into the game world, separating the animal heroes from their human partners.
In terms of personality, Pokota is lively, sociable, and energetic. Character profile material describes the brothers as highly extroverted and fond of physical activity, with green as their favorite color and udon as their favorite food; both share the same birthday of March 22, and because they are game characters it is not confirmed whether they count as twins. Pokota uses the first-person pronoun boku and has a habit of ending his sentences with the syllable poko, while the brothers also add tanu to their speech when talking together. They are competitive and dislike losing, and their weakness against strong players becomes clear when the heroes overcome their challenges.
Pokota's motivation is tied closely to his loyalty to Mujina, the boss of the tanuki in the game world. Along with Ponta, he serves as a host who runs the game challenges designed to keep the protagonists apart and stop them from reuniting with their owners. The story also hints that the brothers envied Iroha and Mayu for the love and care they show toward animals and were involved in drawing them into the game world, although the larger scheme to trap the group is ultimately directed by Mujina.
His role in the story is that of an early obstacle and stage host. After briefly clashing with the transformed heroes, Pokota and Ponta preside over the various game showdowns, including rhythm-based and physical contests, that Komugi and Yuki must clear in order to reach Iroha and Mayu. Despite the brothers' efforts, the two animal protagonists succeed in completing every challenge they set. Once the games are finished, Mujina takes over as the main threat, and the brothers recede into the background as the story moves toward the group's escape from the game world and the final confrontation with their boss.
Pokota does not receive an independent character arc; his development is defined by his partnership with Ponta and his devotion to Mujina. He remains a supporting presence whose actions are always carried out as part of the brothers' shared role within the game, and his loyalty to the tanuki boss is presented as his defining trait.
In terms of abilities, Pokota operates as a digital being native to the game world. With the Digital Tanuki Egg as their shared origin form, the brothers can manifest outside the game, split into their individual tanuki forms, draw people into the game world, and then control or administer the rules of the game stages from within. These abilities make them the gatekeepers of the challenges, though they rely on the game's mechanics and on their service to Mujina rather than on direct combat strength.
