Description
Kuusetsu is one of the Eight Thunder Gods, the group of immensely powerful beings that rule over the Shuuki in the alternate dimension known as Mato and serve as the primary antagonists to humanity. Among her fellow gods, she stands as the youngest member. Unlike the others, Kuusetsu did not originally possess a humanoid form. She began her existence as a large egg with legs, tendrils, and wings, completely dependent on absorbing other living creatures to gain strength, power, and eventually a body. Her fellow gods brought her victims to consume, allowing her to accumulate abilities and gradually take on a more defined shape.

After absorbing two human women, Koko Zenibako and Naon Yuno, Kuusetsu developed a striking humanoid appearance. She became a tall woman with long white hair, a curvaceous figure, and a set of small horns encircling her head like a crown. She typically wears a white kimono. This absorption not only granted her a physical form but also allowed her to copy and inherit the powers and attributes of those she devours, making her a versatile and dangerous foe whose strength grows with each victim.

Kuusetsu’s personality is marked by extreme narcissism and cunning. She views herself as the mightiest and most beautiful being, often displaying arrogance and a dismissive attitude toward those she considers beneath her. She is manipulative and strategic, using her cloning abilities to confuse and overwhelm opponents. When battles do not go her way, her frustration can escalate, revealing a more ferocious and desperate side.

Her motivation aligns with the broader goal of the Eight Thunder Gods: to bring ruin to the human world as retaliation for humanity’s invasion of Mato and the unauthorized harvesting of the dimension’s Peaches. On a personal level, her drive to absorb others is not only a means to gain power but also a fundamental part of her nature—she is a being that was born needing to consume to exist and thrive. This hunger for strength and dominance fuels much of her direct involvement in the story.

Within the narrative, Kuusetsu emerges as a major antagonist during a confrontation in Yokohama. She orchestrates an operation to abduct and absorb the city’s citizens, aiming to bolster her power and wreak havoc. The Mato Defense Force, led by Kyouka Uzen, intervenes to stop her. During the ensuing battle, Kuusetsu demonstrates her formidable abilities: she is strong enough to send fellow god Rairen flying with a single punch, can generate multiple clones of herself, and can transform her limbs into claws for devastating close-quarters attacks. She also absorbed three Humanoid Shuuki—Koko, Naon, and Mira—though they are eventually freed by Kyouka.

After a protracted fight, Kyouka manages to slice through the egg that Kuusetsu had regressed to, seemingly destroying her body. However, Kuusetsu’s spirit does not perish. Prior to this, she had ingested some of Yuuki Wakura’s blood, and as a result her consciousness now resides within him. This spiritual presence alters her role from an active external threat to an internal one, laying the groundwork for further development and continued influence over subsequent events.

Kuusetsu’s key relationships are mostly defined by hierarchy and hostility. She interacts with the other Thunder Gods, such as Shikoku, Jouryuu, and Rairen, as a junior member who relies on them to provide her with sustenance while still striving to prove her superiority. Her connection to the three women she absorbed—Koko, Naon, and Mira—is parasitic, lasting only until they are rescued. Her most significant and lasting bond becomes the one with Yuuki Wakura, whose body she now inhabits. This forced coexistence creates a complex dynamic between the young caretaker of the 7th Squad and the vengeful deity, marking a turning point in her existence from an independent antagonist to a presence bound to the protagonist.

In terms of notable abilities, Kuusetsu possesses immense physical strength and stamina, far beyond that of ordinary Shuuki or even typical Mato Defense Force fighters. Her core power lies in absorption: she can consume other beings and fully assimilate their physical traits and supernatural abilities, continually evolving her own fighting style. She can create duplicates of herself to attack from multiple angles and can alter parts of her body into weapons, such as shaping her hand into a powerful claw. Even after her physical body is destroyed, her spirit endures, capable of persisting inside another being through a blood-based connection. This combination of raw power, adaptability, and post-mortem resilience makes her one of the most persistent threats faced by the protagonists.
