Description
Hauto Satou is the central protagonist of the story, an ordinary young man from modern-day Japan who finds himself thrust into a fantastical other world. His journey begins not with a desire for adventure or power, but out of a singular, unwavering devotion to his childhood friend, Hime. When she reveals she must return to her home world to participate in a political marriage, Satou pursues her through a dimensional portal without a moment’s hesitation, abandoning the only life he has ever known. Upon arriving in the middle of Hime’s wedding ceremony, a crisis allows him to receive a magical ring from her, officially becoming the Ring King and her husband.
As the Ring King, Satou’s primary motivation is twofold: to save this new world from the threat of the Abyss King, and to secure a future where he and Hime can be together. His role in the story is that of a hero who must strengthen his bonds with the five Ring Princesses to unlock the full power of his rings. Despite this harem dynamic, his personality remains defined by his loyalty to Hime. He is not a proactive womanizer; rather, he is often the reluctant recipient of the other princesses’ advances, which he resists with considerable effort because his heart belongs almost entirely to Hime. On the outside, he strives to be brave and fulfill his role, but this exterior often masks a deep-seated insecurity and inexperience, particularly when it comes to romance and intimacy.
The cornerstone of his character is his relationship with Hime. They are a newly married couple awkwardly navigating the shift from a platonic childhood friendship to a romantic partnership, often blushing and fumbling in their attempts to be physically intimate. Hime is unequivocally his number one priority, and the other wives are largely secondary in his eyes. His relationships with the other Ring Princesses—Nephrites, Granart, Saphir, and Amber—are primarily born of duty. While each princess develops genuine feelings for him, ranging from curiosity to deep love, Satou’s interactions with them are focused on fulfilling his quest to gain their rings and save the world, rather than pursuing mutual romance.
Throughout the second season, Satou undergoes significant development as he grapples with his responsibilities. After successfully assembling all the princesses, he faces the humbling reality of his own weakness when he is soundly defeated by the Abyss King. This forces him to move beyond simply collecting allies; he must now actively work to deepen his emotional connections with all his wives, not just Hime, as the power of their rings is directly tied to the strength of those bonds. His journey becomes one of learning to mature emotionally and take his role as a leader and husband seriously, even as he struggles with his own inexperience and singular focus on his first love. His notable abilities are tied to the Ring of Light, which grants him tremendous power based on his relationships, though he must rely on the other princesses to unlock his full potential.
