Description
Hamedori-kun is an official mascot character within the world of the anime Nukitashi the Animation. The character serves as a representative figure for two key entities on Seiran Island: the public interest incorporated association known as SHO and the theme park area called Dosukebe Land. The design of Hamedori-kun is inspired by the mandarin duck, a bird often symbolizing fidelity in couples. In a fitting ironic twist for the series, actual mandarin ducks are known to change mating partners each year.

Within the narrative, the identity of Hamedori-kun is not simply a static symbol but a role performed by another character. The persona of Hamedori-kun is portrayed by Akino Mizuhiki, a transgender female student at Suinomizuki Academy. When she is performing the role, Akino moves energetically while wearing the character's full-body suit. This mascot performance provides Akino with a sense of purpose and joy, acting as a crucial step in her journey toward finding acceptance on the island. Her role as the mascot helps boost her confidence and eventually leads to her becoming the vice-president of the Student Council.

While Hamedori-kun as a mascot does not have a developed personality or personal motivations separate from the performer, the character occupies a notable place in the story's backdrop as the cheerful, public-facing symbol of the island's unique culture. The performer, Akino, brings resourcefulness and creativity to the role, which aligns with her passion for unique and eccentric objects. The character of Hamedori-kun is primarily notable for the key relationships formed through its performer, particularly the support Akino receives from other students like Touka Reizeiin, who gifts her the uniform she treasures. In essence, Hamedori-kun represents an identity and a community role that allows a deeply marginalized character to find a place where she can be seen and appreciated for her true self.
