Description
Ginji is a villain who escaped from Tartarus, the high-security prison for dangerous criminals, during a riot instigated by All For One. He serves as a minor antagonist in the story, an opportunistic criminal whose primary interest lies in causing chaos for personal gain.
Ginji is an equal opportunist, not caring who he works for as long as the arrangement benefits him. He forms alliances only to betray them when it suits his own interests, having no loyalty to any individual or organization. This is evident when he first sides with the Gollini Family and later with a girl named Anna, only to double-cross both parties for his own advancement. He possesses a blatant disregard for the safety of innocent civilians, as shown when he bulldozes through a building during an escape without concern for the people inside or those who could be crushed by falling debris. When confronted by the All Might impersonator known as Dark Might, Ginji reacts with particular rage and rushes to attack, though he is swiftly defeated as payback for betraying the Gollini Family.
In terms of background, Ginji is on the run after his prison escape and forms an alliance with the Gollini Family criminal organization. He is revealed to be one of the few individuals compatible with Anna Scervino's Quirk, Overmodification, an ability that can modify and drastically boost other Quirks. Desperate for help, Anna pleads with Ginji, and the two make a deal: she will modify his Quirk in exchange for his help escaping the Gollini Family's captivity. Ginji blindsides Paulo Gollini and manages to escape with Anna, but immediately goes back on his word after escaping, using his newly modified powers to go on a rampage. He boasts that he outsmarted the Gollini family and snatched Anna from them, claiming that with her by his side, he would be unstoppable. When Anna cries that he lied to her, Ginji smugly responds that he does not remember making such a promise and that she must have heard him wrong.
Students from Class 1-A are dispatched to capture Ginji during his rampage. He evades them by diverting through a building and heads toward an evacuation shelter, endangering civilian lives. When the hero Deku attempts to intervene, touching Anna causes Deku to seize up in pain due to incompatibility with her Quirk, allowing Ginji to escape with her still in his grasp. He breaks into the shelter and begins causing destruction, using his mouth to try to grab hostages. During the ensuing struggle, Ginji receives another modification from Anna, causing more mouths to sprout across his body, surprising his opponent. The fight moves outside, but Ginji is shot from a distance by Giulio Gandini, who is trying to assassinate Anna. After a series of interventions involving time-slowing abilities, the arrival of the Gollini Family's flying boat and their leader who resembles All Might interrupts the confrontation. Knowing he will face punishment for his betrayal, Ginji tries to flee amid the confusion. Class 1-A pursues him, but he destroys buildings and highway supports to force the heroes to save civilians instead. He manages to get a significant distance away, though he regrets having lost Anna. However, the All Might look-alike catches up to him, expresses disappointment in Ginji's betrayal, and when Ginji furiously rushes to attack, the mysterious leader swiftly defeats him with a massive glowing punch, sending him crashing into a bridge. Ginji reverts to his normal form and is arrested thereafter.
