Description
Pilemon Notos Greyrat is a supporting character in Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation II, appearing in the Guardian Fitz installment of the anime's second season, which recounts the period after the mass teleportation disaster. He is a high-ranking noble of the Asura Kingdom, the head of the Notos branch of the Greyrat family, and the lord of the Milbotts territory. He is the younger brother of Paul Greyrat by seven years, which makes him an uncle to Rudeus Greyrat, and he is the father of Luke Notos Greyrat, the young noble who serves as a sworn bodyguard to Princess Ariel Anemoi Asura.
In appearance, Pilemon is distinguished by a pointy nose, a short mustache, hair drawn back from his face, and a cleft chin, and he typically dresses in the formal suits customary for nobles of his station.
His personality differs noticeably from that of his brother Paul. Where Paul is bold and direct, Pilemon is cautious, unconfident, and inclined to attach himself to power and wealth, and he is generally regarded as an opportunist who avoids unnecessary risk. He is nonetheless knowledgeable about court affairs, and in spite of his timid reputation, he is counted among Princess Ariel's most loyal supporters during her struggle against her older half-brother, Prince Grabel, over the Asuran succession. Prince Grabel himself does not regard Pilemon as a serious threat, viewing him as a man content with a modest reward rather than one willing to do whatever is necessary to win.
Pilemon's role in the story centers on the political maneuvering at the Asura royal court. He is present during Ariel's tense exchanges with Grabel and functions as one of her few trusted advisors. When Grabel's ally Darius sends an assassin to kill Ariel, Pilemon advises her to leave the kingdom for her own protection and continue her education abroad. Ariel accepts this advice, and the resulting departure takes her, Luke, and Sylphiette, who serves under the alias Fitz, away from Asura, a decision that eventually leads Fitz to enroll at Ranoa University of Magic and sets the season's main events in motion.
His key relationships define his place in the story. With Luke, he shares a family bond and a common allegiance to Ariel. With Ariel, he acts as a cautious counselor and dependable supporter. With Grabel, he observes the courtesies of noble society while standing firmly on the opposing side of the succession dispute. Through his brother Paul, he is connected to the larger Greyrat family, although his own Notos branch operates within the high society of the Asura Kingdom.
As for abilities, Pilemon is not portrayed as a warrior or a mage. His influence derives from his noble rank, his political knowledge, and his position as head of his house rather than from any personal combat or magical skill. His development within the anime is limited to his role as a prudent advisor whose counsel shapes Ariel's decision to go abroad, after which he recedes from the central events of the story.
