Description
Fū is a member of the vampire group Mayonaka Punch, and in her daily life, she works part-time at a public bathhouse. She has a reserved and shy personality, often hiding behind her bangs, and is initially considered the most sensible and level-headed member of the group. However, as the story progresses, her true nature is revealed: she is secretly a fan of eccentrics and a fujoshi, which leads to increasingly reckless behavior that can shock those around her. She also has a habit of casually mocking her fellow vampire Ichiko.
Deeply connected to Fū's character is her love for music and a profound regret tied to her past. She possesses a beautiful singing voice but has suppressed it for decades due to guilt. Approximately fifty years before the main story, Fū had a human best friend named Aya. The two shared a passion for Western rock and pop music, often singing and recording songs together, with Aya playing guitar while Fū sang. Aya dreamed of taking their act professional, a dream that Fū knew was impossible for her as a vampire who cannot be exposed to sunlight. Unable to admit the truth to her friend, Fū ran away on the day of their planned debut, a decision that filled her with lasting regret.
Fū's role in the story is significantly explored when Masaki discovers her old recordings and tries to convince her to sing again for their channel. Initially, Fū refuses, believing she does not deserve to sing after abandoning Aya. This leads Masaki and the others to help Fū search for her lost friend, a journey that takes her to New York. There, she learns that Aya has passed away. This revelation provides a bittersweet form of closure; Fū confronts her biggest regret and finds the emotional strength to sing once more, dedicating a song to Aya's memory. Through this experience, her motivation shifts from running away from her past to honoring her friend and moving forward.
Key to her development is her relationship with Aya, which haunts her, and her more complex dynamic with the group's leader, Masaki. While Masaki's initial motivation for helping Fū is to get content for their channel, she ultimately empathizes with Fu's pain and helps her find closure. Beyond her interpersonal relationships, Fū's notable ability is her talent for singing, a skill she keeps hidden for most of the series until she finally overcomes her emotional barriers to perform again.
