Description
Motoyasu Kimura is the Spear Hero, one of the four Legendary Heroes summoned from modern-day Japan to the kingdom of Melromarc to fight against the Waves of Catastrophe. He is a twenty-one-year-old university student with long blond hair tied back in a ponytail and bright orange eyes. Upon arrival, he maintains his college-student appearance but adopts fantasy-style clothing befitting his heroic role.

In terms of personality, Motoyasu is initially the friendliest and most outgoing of the four heroes. He is generally a nice person, quick to smile, and demonstrates a strong sense of chivalry and loyalty toward his allies. However, his most defining trait is his extreme naivety and gullibility. He has an almost blind trust in attractive women, believing anything they say without evidence. This combination of charm and poor judgment gives him a player mentality, as he tends to view women as angels and constantly attempts to build a harem for himself. This makes him highly susceptible to manipulation, especially by those who know how to exploit his trusting nature.

Motoyasu's motivations are driven by a desire to be a popular and successful hero. He values the admiration of others and enjoys being seen as the strongest and most charismatic among the legendary heroes. Initially, his primary motivation is to prove his superiority, particularly over Naofumi Iwatani, the Shield Hero, whom he believes to be a villain after being deceived by the princess Malty Melromarc. He readily believes Malty's false accusations against Naofumi and becomes openly hostile, acting as one of his earliest antagonists. His role in the story during these early arcs is primarily as an adversary, often clashing with Naofumi due to his misplaced trust and pride.

A major turning point occurs when Motoyasu finally realizes the extent of Malty's deception. The shock of being so thoroughly fooled causes him to fall into a deep depression, during which his Legendary Spear unlocks its Curse Series. This traumatic event triggers a dramatic shift in his personality. After being comforted by Naofumi's filolial companion, Filo, he develops an obsessive and comedic crush on her, viewing her as the ideal being. This strange attachment leads him to regard Naofumi with utmost respect, addressing him as father-in-law. His perspective on women and relationships completely flips: he becomes unable to see human women as anything other than disgustingly pig-like, and instead develops an intense love for filolials, the bird-like creatures of the world.

This personality transformation also affects his combat style. He becomes fearless, ruthless, and even bloodthirsty in battle, showing no concern for killing or being covered in blood. In terms of notable abilities, Motoyasu wields the Legendary Spear, a weapon capable of transforming into various forms, each with unique strengths and effects. His fighting style relies on high agility and powerful, wide-area spear attacks that are highly effective against groups of enemies. In addition to physical combat, he is skilled in fire and healing magic, making him a versatile fighter. Following Naofumi's advice on the Power Up Method, Motoyasu grows significantly stronger over time, eventually becoming the most powerful among the four legendary heroes by the end of the eleventh light novel volume.

Key relationships define his journey. His early alliance with Malty turns into bitter resentment once her schemes are exposed. His relationship with Naofumi evolves from intense hostility to genuine loyalty and respect, though it is expressed through his strange father-in-law fixation. He also has a complex relationship with the other heroes, often marked by rivalry but gradually shifting toward camaraderie as they learn the importance of teamwork. As of the events covered in the fourth season, Motoyasu has undergone a complete change of heart. He has abandoned his earlier arrogance and now fiercely protects Naofumi's domain and interests. Though still eccentric and prone to comic relief, he has become a dependable and powerful ally, using his abilities to support the group against greater threats.
