Description
The character known as Hakkon is the protagonist of the story. The name Hakkon, also spelled as Boxxo, was given to him by a girl named Lammis after his reincarnation, and it is presumed to be derived from a word meaning box. His original name from his past life as a human is never revealed. In his previous life, he was a Japanese man with an intense passion for vending machines, to the point of spending most of his salary on trying and collecting them. His death occurred during a traffic accident when a vending machine flew toward him; instead of dodging, he tried to protect it and was crushed. Upon dying, he found himself reincarnated in a fantasy world as a sentient vending machine, left alone near a lake in a dungeon.

As a vending machine, Hakkon is incapable of moving on his own and his communication is severely limited. He can only speak using the pre-recorded phrases built into his systems. He uses the word for welcome to indicate affirmation or agreement and a phrase meaning too bad to indicate negation or refusal. Over time, he learns to splice these recorded phrases together to form more complex sentences and express himself more freely. Despite his mechanical body, Hakkon retains his human consciousness, memories, and intelligence. His personality is thoughtful, resourceful, and deeply caring. He is gentle and attentive towards his companions, often putting himself at risk to protect them. This self-sacrificing nature frequently worries his friends, especially Lammis, who scolds him for his reckless behavior. He is highly inventive and quick-thinking, using his extensive knowledge of vending machines and modern products from his old world to solve problems in the fantasy setting.

The primary motivation for Hakkon is survival, which is directly tied to his ability to conduct business. He operates on a point system where any coin inserted into him is converted into points. These points are essential for maintaining his magical power, replenishing the products he sells, and powering his own existence. If his points reach zero, he will stop functioning. To prevent this, he must consistently sell goods. Initially, he wishes to find a way to return to his human form. However, as he integrates into his new life and forms bonds with the people of this world, he gradually loses his attachment to his past self and becomes less interested in becoming human again.

Within the story, Hakkon serves as a non-combatant support角色 who is the logistical and culinary backbone of his group. He cannot fight directly, but he is invaluable as a source of food, drinks, and various useful items. In emergencies, he uses his wits and the properties of his products to create unconventional attacks or defensive measures, such as causing explosive reactions with cola and mint candies or using a protective barrier. His presence greatly improves the quality of life for the adventurers around him, who previously relied on bland preserved food or monster meat. His immobility means he relies on others to carry him, which turns his companions into his means of mobility and allows him to explore the dungeon.

The most significant relationship in Hakkon's new life is with Lammis, the young hunter who discovered and rescued him. He is deeply grateful to her for saving him when he was helpless, and she is the first person he comes to trust. Lammis named him and carries him on her back, which allows her to control her superhuman strength. Their bond is very close, and she acts as his protector. Hakkon's dynamic with Lammis has been described as that of a father figure watching over her happiness. He also builds strong relationships with other dungeon residents, such as the engineer Hulemy, and gains the trust and affection of many adventurers by providing them with delicious food and clever solutions. His popularity even leads to others in the world attempting to imitate his vending machine concept.

Hakkon undergoes a notable character development arc. While he starts his journey with a strong desire to regain his humanity, his experiences and the connections he forms lead him to accept his existence as a vending machine. When presented with a potential means to become human again, he shows reluctance, whereas Lammis strongly wishes for his return to human form. This shift illustrates his growing contentment with his new identity and role in the world. He evolves from a helpless machine obsessed with his past to an active, valued, and content member of the community, fully embracing his unique circumstances.

Hakkon possesses a wide array of abilities tied to his nature as a vending machine. He has a default form but can spend points to transform into virtually any type of vending machine that exists or has existed in Japan. These forms include machines that dispense drinks, instant noodles with hot water, frozen food that can be warmed, snacks, flowers, tools, newspapers, and even portable toilets. He can infinitely produce any item he was able to purchase in his previous life. His communication is generally restricted to pre-recorded phrases, though he can later splice them for more complex speech. He can create a magical barrier, known as warding, to protect himself from attacks within a certain radius. He can perceive external stimuli, including pain from impacts and changes in temperature, and his internal display lights change mode when he is sleeping or thinking deeply. When he speaks in internal monologue, a set of digital eyes is shown for the benefit of the audience, but these eyes do not actually exist on his body, and to the other characters, he simply appears as an ordinary vending machine. His passion for vending machines is rivaled only by his love for cats.
