Description
Erde is an antagonist from the anime Shadowverse Flame, serving as an alter ego or proxy for the primary antagonist known as the Arc Ruler. Created from the Arc Autonomous Defense System, Erde was brought into existence alongside another proxy named Himmel. The name Erde is German for Earth. As an artificial being, Erde was designed to act as a guardian and agent for the Arc Ruler's ambitions.
In terms of personality, Erde is consistently calm and calculating. This demeanor is coupled with a deeply misanthropic and megalomaniacal worldview, stemming from a belief in one's own superiority over humanity. Erde, along with the other Arc Rulers, holds this condescending view to such an extreme degree that they refer to themselves as gods.
Erde's primary motivation is to serve the will of the main Arc Ruler. This involves participating in the invasion of Nekome City and carrying out specific objectives to further the Arc Ruler's plans. Erde's defining goal in the story is to guard the Gaia Tower, a key structure in the invasion, and eliminate any threats that come to destroy it. The character sees these missions as a way to demonstrate the power of the Arc Rulers over humanity.
Within the story's narrative, Erde's main role is that of an imposing obstacle for the protagonists. After the main Arc Ruler begins the invasion, Erde takes on the critical assignment of protecting the Gaia Tower. There, Erde confronts Itsuki Mitsutagawa and Subaru Makabe, who have arrived to destroy the tower. In this encounter, Erde overcomes the Nexa System and forces both opponents into a Shadowverse match. This duel is revealed to be a fight to the death, as any damage taken during the match directly harms the players' life force.
In terms of key relationships, Erde is intrinsically linked to the Arc Ruler as a created proxy and to Himmel as a fellow creation. The relationship with the protagonists, specifically Itsuki and Subaru, is purely adversarial, defined by the lethal battle at the Gaia Tower. The character's disdain for humanity places Erde in direct opposition to all the human characters in the series.
Erde undergoes a significant development following defeat. After being defeated by Itsuki and Subaru in the lethal Shadowverse match, a turn of events that Erde finds unbelievable, the tower begins to collapse and Erde disappears. However, a final remnant of Erde appears to say goodbye to the Arc Ruler. In this final moment, Erde expresses gratitude for being created and reveals an unexpected emotional capacity by stating an amazement at discovering the feeling of sorrow.
Regarding notable abilities, Erde is a skilled Shadowverse player who employs a deck primarily focused on the Bloodcraft class. This deck is built around the Wrath mechanic and heavily features the Lust series of cards, with Valnareik, Omen of Lust serving as a key follower. Through the use of a spell known as Disdain and Lust, Erde gains access to cards from the Dragoncraft class as well. This allows the use of the Disdain archetype, particularly Galmieux, Omen of Disdain, a strategy that focuses on activating powerful effects by damaging one's own allied followers. This combination of classes makes Erde a formidable and versatile duelist.
