Description
Kana Ichikawa is the elder sister of the protagonist, Kyotaro Ichikawa, in the romantic comedy series Twi-Yaba. She is a university student, attending Hayasuda University where she studies in the Political Science and Economics department. Kana is five to six years older than her brother and has a close, caring relationship with him that is a significant part of her role in the story.

In terms of personality, Kana presents herself as an outgoing and energetic young woman, typical of a university student involved in social activities. However, this lively exterior often masks a more reserved and introverted nature that is quite similar to her younger brother's. This contrast becomes especially apparent when she is in unfamiliar situations or meeting new people, such as the first time she interacts with Anna Yamada, where she becomes visibly nervous and shy. As a sibling, Kana is affectionate and sometimes overly involved in Kyotaro's life, frequently teasing him and calling him by the nickname Kyo-chan. While Kyotaro often finds her prying embarrassing, he never truly rejects her and has confided in her on occasion. She is deeply supportive of her brother and is genuinely concerned about his emotional well-being.

Kana's motivations in the story are largely centered on her family and her own desire for connection. She is highly invested in her brother's happiness and becomes intensely curious about his burgeoning relationship with Anna Yamada, often trying to extract information from him. Her interest stems from a place of care, as she is happy to see Kyotaro come out of his shell, but it is also tinged with a degree of envy, as she is sensitive to the fact that her younger brother has found romantic success while she has not. Kana views Yamada with admiration and something of a platonic crush, even hoping to treat her like the sister she never had. Her own backstory reveals that during middle and high school, she was a reserved student who focused entirely on her studies, avoiding friendships and romantic experiences. Her current outgoing personality is a conscious change she has enacted since starting university, where she has made a fresh start for herself.

Within the narrative, Kana serves as a key supporting character who provides both comedic relief and heartfelt support for the main couple. She is one of the first family members to recognize the depth of Anna Yamada's feelings for Kyotaro. Her home often serves as a neutral and safe space for the young couple, and her approval and encouragement are important for their relationship's development. Kana experiences notable character development through her interactions with Yamada. Initially nervous about meeting her brother's potential girlfriend, she quickly warms up and becomes one of Yamada's biggest supporters, expressing gratitude that someone cares for her brother so deeply. Her own journey involves balancing her studious past with her newer, more socially active life.

Kana possesses several notable abilities that round out her character. She is the guitarist and lead vocalist for a four-member university band called Primary COLOR. Her musical talent is such that one of her band's songs has been included with a special edition of the source material. In addition to her musical pursuits, she works a part-time job at a takoyaki shop, where she demonstrated her diligent and earnest nature by practicing making takoyaki for days on end before starting the position. Kana stands at 157cm tall and celebrates her birthday on November 9.
