Description
Kidou is a 17-year-old male exterminator navigating a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by Cagaster, a disease that transforms infected humans into giant carnivorous insects. He possesses black hair reaching his ears and blue eyes. His work involves providing security for merchants and specializing in eliminating Cagasters, exploiting the brief partially-human phase for effective eradication, a task demanding significant emotional detachment.

Orphaned young, Kidou was adopted and rigorously trained by the exterminator Lazarus in the Cagaster-infested Far East. This harsh upbringing forged a pragmatic and emotionally distant outlook. A traumatic event five years prior further cemented his avoidance of emotional connections.

Kidou's story begins when he encounters a dying man attacked by insects near the desert's edge. The man entrusts Kidou with escorting his young daughter, Ilie, to find her mother. Initially accepting this as a professional duty, Kidou gradually forms a protective bond with Ilie. Their perilous journey involves evading threats across dangerous territories and confronting adversaries like Acht, who ambushes them during an escape from a man claiming to be Ilie's father.

Throughout this mission, Kidou confronts his suppressed emotions and sense of responsibility. He uncovers details about Ilie's origins and significance, including her connection to Griffith and her proclaimed future role as queen within the insect cage structure. His combat skills and tactical knowledge are tested repeatedly, notably during an infiltration of the fortified E-07 main tower to rescue Ilie after her capture. He battles numerous Cagasters and adversaries aligned with forces seeking societal overthrow.

Kidou's development centers on his shift from emotional isolation towards renewed human connection, driven by his commitment to Ilie's safety. This culminates in their reunion and joint struggle to reach critical locations like the throne room against fierce opposition. Following intense conflicts, including a final battle against Acht, Kidou must reconcile his traumatic past and actions with his emerging purpose beyond mere survival. His arc concludes navigating widespread conflict's aftermath alongside survivors, indicating his continued, though evolved, role in the struggle for stability.
