Movie
Description
Kyohei Nishimura is an inspector with the Hokkaido Prefecture Police, a seasoned law enforcement officer who appears in the franchise as a supporting figure in criminal investigations. He is approximately forty years old and is characterized by his straightforward, no-nonsense approach to police work. Physically, he has pale skin, straight black hair, and a light beard, and he typically wears a black suit with a white shirt, a standard but sharp appearance befitting his role.

In terms of personality, Nishimura is generally even-tempered when suspects and witnesses are cooperative, valuing efficiency and directness in his investigations. He dislikes making unfounded assumptions and relies on logical reasoning to guide his actions. However, he has a known tendency to raise his voice and become irritable if his authority is questioned or if he perceives that an investigation is being deliberately delayed. This reflects a man who takes his duty seriously and expects the same level of professionalism from others.

Within the narrative of the film The Million-dollar Pentagram, Nishimura serves as the lead inspector for a complex case that begins with the murder of a Hokkaido-native lawyer named Sumito Hisagaki at Hakodate harbor. When the famous detective Kogoro Mouri and the young sleuths Heiji Hattori and Conan Edogawa arrive at the crime scene, Nishimura recognizes Kogoro from a previous case on the North Star Express, though the recollection is not mutual. Despite his initial skepticism toward the so-called cursed detective, Nishimura demonstrates professional courtesy by allowing the group to examine the evidence. His role deepens as he later arrests a key suspect, Hijiri Fukushiro, based on forensic evidence, showing his commitment to procedure even as the case grows more complicated.

Nishimura has several key relationships that define his role in the story. His connection to Kogoro Mouri is one of professional acquaintance, marked by a degree of wariness on Nishimura's part due to rumors of trouble following the famous detective. He works closely with his assistant, Yoshihisa Kawazoe, and his trust in this subordinate becomes a notable plot point. A significant portion of his interactions in the film are impacted by Kaitou Kid, the phantom thief who briefly impersonates Nishimura to help Heiji and Conan access a victim's hotel belongings. Furthermore, when Inspector Ginzo Nakamori is injured while handling a related robbery case, Nishimura steps in to take over the investigation, demonstrating his willingness to shoulder additional responsibility and his capability in high-stakes negotiation. He directly negotiates with the antagonist Brian D. Kadokura, who is holding a hostage, showcasing his ability to handle tense, real-world police situations beyond simple detective work.

As the story progresses, Nishimura shows development in his investigative acumen. While he is successfully deceived by Kaitou Kid's disguise for much of the film, he displays sharp perceptiveness at the conclusion. When his real assistant Kawazoe arrives in plain clothes, Nishimura immediately finds it odd, learning that Kawazoe had been on vacation. He quickly deduces that the man he had been working with for the previous two days was an imposter. However, he does not discover that the impersonator was actually the mysterious thief Kaito Corbeau, showing that while he is an able officer, he can still be outmaneuvered by master criminals.

Nishimura’s notable abilities lie in his methodical reasoning and his leadership as a police inspector. He is competent in managing a crime scene, conducting interrogations, and negotiating with dangerous criminals. While not possessing the superhuman deductive skills of the series' protagonists, he is portrayed as a capable and dedicated professional who ultimately helps bring the culprits to justice, making arrests at the end of the case and fulfilling his duty as a member of the Hokkaido Prefecture Police.
