Movie
Description
Inspector Ginzo Nakamori is a dedicated and long-serving officer of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police. As an inspector assigned to the district's fraud division, his official duties involve various criminal cases, but his true focus and obsession have become the pursuit of the elusive international phantom thief, Kaitou Kid. This pursuit is a personal and professional vendetta that has defined his career for many years, having started when he first joined the police force, originally as a homicide inspector. He is a man in his early forties, and his commitment to capturing Kid is so strong that he transferred from his previous division to dedicate all his time and energy to the task force responsible for the thief.

In terms of personality, Nakamori is known for his fiery and boisterous demeanor. He is often seen yelling orders to his subordinates and can lose his cool quickly when his carefully laid plans go wrong. Despite his long history of failures, he maintains an extremely high level of self-confidence, often cackling at the thought of his latest trap ensnaring Kaitou Kid and proudly declaring on live television that this time will be a success. This impulsiveness, however, is frequently his downfall, leading him to chase decoys or prematurely disable security measures, allowing the real Kid to escape. Nevertheless, he is a capable and experienced officer, and his relentless pursuit shows a deep respect for his rival's skill and sense of honor, even as he loathes what he represents. Nakamori himself would never condone murder or serious violent crime, and he recognizes that Kaitou Kid operates by a similar moral code.

The character's role in the story of "The Million-dollar Pentagram" places him directly in the center of the mystery. The film's plot is set in motion when Kaitou Kid announces his intention to steal a pair of wakizashi swords stored in Hakodate, Hokkaido, rather than a massive jewel. This unusual target immediately raises Inspector Nakamori's suspicions, as it deviates from Kid's typical modus operandi. He leads the police response to Kid's heist notice, and his investigation brings him into contact with Conan Edogawa, Heiji Hattori, and other key characters also drawn to Hakodate. During the course of the events, Nakamori demonstrates his commitment to protecting others, even at great personal risk. In a pivotal moment, he actively protects a key figure, Takuzo Onoe, from a sniper's bullets. He is shot twice in the back while shielding Mr. Onoe, sustaining serious injuries that demonstrate his courage and sense of duty. This act of heroism is a significant part of his role in the film, showcasing the man behind the bombastic facade.

Key relationships are central to understanding Nakamori. He is the father of Aoko Nakamori, a high school student who is a close friend and the romantic interest of Kaito Kuroba, the boy who is secretly Kaitou Kid. Nakamori is fond of Kaito, having known him since childhood, and often invites him over for dinner, unaware of his secret identity. This creates a dramatic irony central to the franchise. In his professional life, he has a cordial but sometimes exasperated relationship with his superior, Shintaro Chaki, and is often dismissive of the amateur detective Saguru Hakuba. However, he greatly appreciates the assistance of Conan Edogawa, whose sharp observations and suggestions have helped frustrate Kid's plans on multiple occasions. He also has a notable relationship with the wealthy Jirokichi Suzuki, whose elaborate schemes to capture Kid often leave Nakamori feeling drained and annoyed.

Throughout the film, Inspector Nakamori shows little in the way of personal development, as his character is already well-established. His defining traits remain consistent: his obsessive drive to capture Kaitou Kid, his boisterous confidence, and his fundamental integrity as a police officer who puts his life on the line to protect others. His injury in the line of duty serves not as a turning point for his character arc but rather as a reaffirmation of his dedication and bravery. His notable abilities include his extensive experience in directing large-scale police operations and his intimate knowledge of Kaitou Kid's methods, accumulated over years of pursuit. Even though this knowledge rarely leads to a successful capture, it makes him a formidable and persistent opponent, and a crucial part of any major case involving the phantom thief. His experience in homicides also provides him with a solid foundation for handling the more dangerous and deadly aspects of the case in Hakodate.
