TV-Series
Description
Iku Sutou is a first-year high school student and the ninth girlfriend of Rentarou Aijou in the series. She is a student in class 1-3 at Ohananomitsu High School and the sole remaining member of the school's girls' baseball club. Her birthday is January 9, which is a phonetic play on her name, as "i" can represent the number one and "ku" the number nine. She is fifteen years old and refers to herself using the masculine pronoun "boku," which reinforces her tomboyish demeanor.

In terms of appearance, Iku has short, flaxen or platinum blonde hair, thick eyebrows, and striking purple eyes. Her build is slender and athletic rather than visibly muscular, a result of her constantly pushing her body past its limits to the point of overtraining. She typically wears her school uniform with practical modifications, including spats or compression shorts under her skirt to allow for easy movement. Her image color is a grayish purple that matches her eyes.

Iku's personality is defined by her extreme stoicism and devotion to effort, which has evolved into a pronounced masochistic streak. She is energetic, positive, and straightforward, with a natural ability to get along with others and act as a mood-maker within the group. Her personal philosophy is captured in her belief that if a person fails at something, it only means they did not work hard enough. This drive pushes her to train relentlessly, often to the point of physical agony, and she derives genuine pleasure from the sensation of pain and hardship. Her signature reaction when experiencing something painful or difficult is to say "That's so rough…♥" often with her eyes turning into heart shapes, a verbal tic she does not seem to fully recognize in herself.

Despite her masochistic tendencies, Iku maintains sensible boundaries. She prefers pain that comes from contexts she interprets as training, challenges, or affection rather than empty, meaningless cruelty. She also harbors insecurities about her boyish appearance, feeling uncomfortable in feminine clothing or when romantic or sexual situations draw attention to her gender, often protesting that such things are not her kind of character.

Iku's background reveals the origins of both her love for baseball and her masochistic tendencies. She was inspired by her older brother, who encouraged her to push through pain and difficulty when she was clumsy and prone to giving up. When she finally managed to hit a ball successfully, she internalized the idea that hurting was a good thing. Her current situation with the baseball club is precarious: the team originally had nine members who all vowed to win the national championship, but the other eight left to study baseball in America, leaving Iku alone to safeguard the club. The school decided that if she cannot win an upcoming practice game, the club will be disbanded.

Iku meets Rentarou when she is recruiting new members outside the school gates, having performed over ten thousand practice swings since early morning. They lock eyes and experience the "zing" of being soulmates, though she initially tries to recruit him for the baseball club before realizing her romantic feelings. Her confession to Rentarou takes an unusual turn when he initially rejects her, having deduced that she would derive pleasure from the pain of heartbreak. She does indeed enjoy the emotional suffering, but Rentarou immediately regrets the act and accepts her confession genuinely, welcoming her into his family.

Within the Rentarou Family, Iku has several notable relationships. She shares a particularly strong connection with Rin Baio, who loves violence, and together they form a perfect ecosystem where Rin provides the "butt bat" strikes that Iku craves. She also interacts frequently with Mei Meido, with whom she collaborates on the infamous "butt bat" booth at school festivals. Iku treats the earlier girlfriends as "senpai girlfriends," showing them the respect and seniority recognition typical of sports team culture. Her interactions with Kusuri Yakuzen reveal another layer of her masochism: when Kusuri gives her a massage that cures all her muscle pain, Iku screams in despair at the loss of the suffering she loves.

One of Iku's significant character developments involves overcoming a trauma related to baseball. In the past, she hit a home run that accidentally struck a spectator, injuring her. This incident caused her to freeze in the batter's box and prevented her from swinging properly despite her extensive practice. During a critical practice game, when the opposing team targeted her friend Shizuka Yoshimoto, Iku's anger combined with the support of Rentarou and the other girlfriends finally allowed her to overcome her fear and reclaim her full swing.

Iku possesses remarkable abilities as a baseball player, excelling in both pitching and hitting due to her insane training volume. Her physical endurance is truly superhuman; she has performed over one hundred thousand bat swings without collapsing and can train all night until school begins the next day. Her pain tolerance is equally extraordinary, and other characters often refer to her as a monster or undead due to her resilience. Outside of baseball, she applies the same masochistic philosophy to other activities, enjoying brutally difficult video game modes, terrifying horror movies, and any experience that feels punishing or harsh.

A notable running gag associated with Iku is her ability to produce a baseball bat from seemingly nowhere, much like other characters who carry signature items. She will dramatically produce a bat and beg the other girlfriends to hit her with it, responding to any mention of the words "butt" or "rear" as if she had been summoned. This quirk, combined with her cheerful acceptance of pain and her genuine dedication to her sport and her found family, makes her an energetic and distinctive presence within the group.
