TV-Series
Description
Chicory Monki is a crime reporter for the weekly magazine Lime Weekly. She is a young woman with a fair complexion, light brown eyes, and chin-length light brown hair that she usually wears in a ponytail, complemented by round glasses. Standing at 152 centimeters tall, her typical attire consists of a white shirt, a light brown jacket, dark blue jeans, and white shoes.

Her motivation to become a journalist stems from a childhood trauma: she was kidnapped as a child, and a police detective solved the case and rescued her. This incident made her view detectives as heroes, and she pursued a career in reporting specifically to cover the achievements of police detectives. Prior to joining Lime Weekly, she had already made a name for herself by covering notorious cases such as the Kushiro Giant Snowman Murders and the Izumo Eight-Headed Serpent Assassination.

In her role within the story, Chicory approaches Totomaru Isshiki to feature him in the "People to Watch" column of her magazine, having been impressed by the difficult cases he has supposedly solved. She is enthusiastic and outgoing, holding a deep admiration for Isshiki's work and even comparing him to a god. However, privately, Isshiki is conflicted because he knows that his partner, Ron Kamonohashi, is the true genius behind the deductions.

Chicory's key relationships are primarily with the two main characters. She is a staunch supporter and admirer of Totomaru Isshiki, whom she sees as her ideal detective. Conversely, her relationship with Ron is initially antagonistic. When she meets him under his barista alias Kamokyu Chasaku, she dislikes him because she perceives him as someone who intimidates and bosses Isshiki around, unaware of their collaborative arrangement. Ron, however, recognizes her value as a source of information on difficult cases and attempts to get into her good graces, though his efforts often annoy her.

Throughout her appearances, Chicory shows development beyond being a simple admirer. During the Poisoned Latté Case, she gets to witness Isshiki working a case in real-time. While she initially expects a cool and quick-witted detective, she realizes he is different from her imagination. Instead of being disappointed, she comes to appreciate his dedication and the effort he puts into his work, concluding that he is amazing in his own way. This experience solidifies her respect for him based on his character rather than just his reputation.

As a reporter, Chicory has notable abilities in investigation. She independently researches unsolved cases and impossible crimes, and she is capable of uncovering details that even the police have not made public, such as learning that a criminal named Hummingbird sends greeting cards before committing kidnappings. This investigative skill makes her a valuable ally, and Ron and Isshiki occasionally contact her to gather information or background on cases they are working on.
