TV-Series
Description
Horikawa Kunihiro is a wakizashi manifested as a sword warrior whose historical blade was forged by the swordsmith Kunihiro Horikawa during the Azuchi‑Momoyama period. The weapon was famed as a favorite of Hijikata Toshizo, vice‑commander of the Shinsengumi, and that legacy deeply informs his identity. Physically he appears as a young man with short black hair and blue eyes, often dressed in a blue double‑breasted jacket with a red ribbon, white trousers, and red stud earrings. When he undergoes his Kiwame evolution he adopts a white scarf, a black coat, and black boots; during internal duties he wears a red tracksuit.

His personality is thoroughly domestic and supportive. He enjoys household tasks such as cleaning and laundry and is unfailingly polite and attentive to those around him. He openly describes himself as the assistant and partner of Izuminokami Kanesada, another sword once wielded by Hijikata. Despite his gentle, almost homemaker‑like demeanor, he hides a fierce fighting spirit and a strong desire to prove useful on the battlefield. His motivation is to serve the master who summoned him and to support Kanesada, for whose impulsive nature he frequently compensates with calm, strategic thinking.

In Touken Ranbu Kai Kyoden Moyuru Honnouji, Horikawa Kunihiro is newly manifested and enters his first unit, making him relatively inexperienced compared to longer‑active sword warriors. His role is that of a steadfast support, both in combat and in daily life at the citadel. He regularly assists Kanesada, watches out for his temperament, and works to maintain harmony among the team while quietly honing his own skills. As the story progresses he grows from a hesitant newcomer into a more confident and reliable combatant who can contribute decisively to missions aimed at protecting the proper course of history.

His most significant relationship is with Izuminokami Kanesada, to whom he is fiercely loyal and whom he regards as a partner. He also shares a connection with other Hijikata‑associated swords such as Yamatonokami Yasusada and Kashuu Kiyomitsu, and he respects the master deeply. Among his notable abilities, the wakizashi form grants him high reconnaissance and concealment parameters, making him an effective scout and supporter in battle. Off the field, his real strength is his domestic efficiency and his knack for ensuring that everyone’s needs are met, but when pressed he reveals a resolve and combat proficiency that belie his gentle appearance.
