Description
Joshua Euclius is a character from the later arcs of the story, known primarily for being the devoted younger brother of the renowned knight, Julius Euclius. He is a young man with a gentle and scholarly appearance, featuring long, light purple hair tied at the nape of his neck and yellow, sharp eyes. A signature part of his look is the monocle he wears, which contributes to his refined and intellectual aura. Despite his mature and neat appearance, he is actually quite young, with his age noted as being around seventeen to nineteen years old.

Joshua has a complex personality that is defined by a sharp contrast between his professional demeanor and his personal passions. On the surface, he is polite, well-mannered, and tries to conduct himself with the seriousness expected of a member of a noble house. He works as a capable member of the Anastasia Hoshin camp, filling an important role as a messenger, diplomat, and intellectual asset. In this capacity, he performs his duties with a sense of responsibility and pride, focusing on the business of negotiations and information management. However, this composed exterior quickly crumbles when the subject of conversation turns to his older brother, Julius. In these moments, Joshua becomes unable to contain his emotions, passionately praising his brother's achievements and character, often to the point of embarrassing himself and those around him. This deep admiration has led to him being labeled a brocon, or brother-complex character, whose devotion to his sibling is a central part of his identity.

Joshua's motivations and role in the story are deeply rooted in his family history and his personal limitations. Born as the original heir to the Euclius family, which has a proud tradition of producing knights, Joshua was afflicted with a weak constitution from a young age. He suffered from frequent spells and was often confined to his sickbed, unable to pursue the martial training he desired. His cousin Julius was adopted into the family after losing his own parents, and because he was older and healthier, Julius took over the position of heir and the responsibility of becoming a knight. As a result, Joshua was relegated to the role of a younger brother. While he harbored some deep-seated jealousy and resentment toward Julius for taking the life he himself could not have, he ultimately chose to channel these feelings into immense admiration and support for his brother. He found purpose in using his intelligence and the knowledge he gained from years of reading in his sickbed to become Julius's greatest supporter and to work for the same cause: the Anastasia Hoshin camp that Julius had chosen to serve. Joshua is motivated by his loyalty to his brother and Anastasia, and he takes satisfaction in his work as an administrative and diplomatic agent, living in the real world with tangible passion rather than just through stories. He lacks any notable combat abilities or martial arts training, being described as physically weaker than even Subaru Natsuki, which forces him to rely on his intellect and formal education to contribute.

His key relationships further define his character. His relationship with his brother Julius is the most significant, a deep and complex bond of admiration mixed with underlying childhood pain. He is a trusted member of the Anastasia Hoshin camp, serving her and contributing his skills in governance and diplomacy. He also has an initial negative impression of Subaru Natsuki, seeing him as pitiful and unworthy of being compared to his brother, especially when Subaru refers to himself as a Spirit Knight. However, circumstances create an unusual and tragic connection between them later on. Through his work, Joshua interacts with other members of the Anastasia camp and external figures like the Roswaal household, to whom he is sent as a messenger. Author commentary indicates he gets along well with the cat-eared siblings Mimi, Hetaro, and Tivey, appreciating their easy-going nature.

Joshua's most significant development in the story is a tragic one. As the narrative progresses into its fifth arc, he becomes a victim of the Sin Archbishop of Gluttony, Roy Alphard. In a devastating attack, Roy Alphard consumes both Joshua's name and his memories. Consequently, Joshua is erased from the minds of almost everyone who knew him, and he falls into a deep, unending slumber akin to a Sleeping Beauty, much like the character Rem before him. The only person who retains any recollection of Joshua's existence is Subaru Natsuki, a consequence of the unique nature of his own role in the world. Thus, the intelligent and brother-loving young man becomes a forgotten figure, a tragedy that serves as a powerful motivator for those who seek to challenge the Witch Cult's authority.

As for notable abilities, Joshua possesses no magical or martial skills. He cannot use magic due to a lack of training, and his physical strength is extremely low, even below that of the below-average Subaru. His true abilities lie in his intellect and his education. He has a deep appreciation for art, including painting, poetry, and music, and has even created artwork that impresses Anastasia. His value comes from his knowledge of noble protocol, his ability to synthesize information, and his capacity to represent his camp in diplomatic endeavors, making him an effective, if fragile, non-combatant.
