Description
Ahu is the eighth-ranked hero and a former circus dog who gained human-like intelligence and the ability to speak through the power of public Trust. His name, which translates to tiger, is a playful contrast to his identity as a small, brown Shar Pei dog. He stands approximately thirty centimeters tall and wears a signature fedora and a small tie, the latter given to him by his young owner.

Ahu's origin begins in a circus, where he was trained as a performer to do tricks. After biting a child, he was scheduled to be euthanized but was rescued by a determined girl named Xin Ya. Initially, Ahu was apathetic and reluctant to engage with Xin Ya's ambitions, viewing her belief in him as a hero as a nuisance. He preferred to sleep rather than participate in her training exercises, which involved homemade cardboard costumes and poorly edited videos meant to portray him as a monster fighter.

Despite his initial laziness, Ahu is deeply moved by Xin Ya's unwavering dedication and care. When their neighborhood comes under threat from the Treeman Group, a corporation attempting to evict residents for a gentrification project, Xin Ya turns to Ahu for protection. His personality shifts from passive to fiercely protective, driven by a powerful sense of canine loyalty. A defining moment in his transformation occurs when Xin Ya is severely beaten while trying to protect their community. Seeing her bravery and suffering inspires Ahu to embrace the role of a true hero, allowing him to tap into his latent powers.

Ahu's role in the story is central to an arc that explores the nature of heroism and the power of belief. He achieves his rank and abilities at a record-breaking speed, surpassing established heroes like Nice. His motivations are almost entirely tied to Xin Ya; he strives to be a hero primarily to ensure her safety and well-being. This devotion is the source of his strength and also a point of moral complexity. After defeating a group of Phobiaclone enemies with the unseen help of the top hero, X, Ahu takes full public credit for the victory. While he does this reluctantly, he understands that claiming the feat is necessary to solidify his status as a hero and gain the Trust value required to protect Xin Ya effectively.

Key relationships define Ahu's journey. His bond with Xin Ya is the emotional core of his story; her faith in him is the catalyst for his transformation from a circus animal into a sentient hero. His relationship with Hero X is also significant. X saves Ahu's life during a critical battle, and Ahu is left in awe of X's power, comparing it to the circus magic he witnessed as a dog but recognizing X's abilities as genuine. Ahu becomes one of the few characters who knows X's true identity and later tries to warn him of a conspiracy to have him killed, even volunteering to carry out the assassination himself to save X from a worse fate. Despite this, Ahu remains loyal to X, eventually fighting alongside him. As a member of the FOMO hero agency, Ahu also has a cordial relationship with its CEO, Zac, who finds the dog endearing and treats him with more leniency than his human heroes.

Throughout the story, Ahu undergoes significant development. He evolves from a cynical, beaten-down circus animal who hates children and performs only for survival into a courageous, empathetic, and articulate hero willing to lie and fight for the people he loves. He learns to embrace the hero persona that Xin Ya created for him, proving that heroism is not just about power but about determination and heart.

Ahu possesses several notable abilities derived from the Trust placed in him by the public. His most fundamental power is his superhuman intelligence and sapience, which allow him to think, reason, and speak like a human. He also has the ability to transform into multiple distinct humanoid forms, each suited for a different fighting style. This power originated from Xin Ya and his fans imagining various heroic personas for him, which his Trust-based abilities made real. In combat, Ahu demonstrates enhanced strength, speed, and reflexes, allowing him to perform feats far beyond a normal dog, such as catching and throwing an axe to decapitate an enemy. His background as a circus performer grants him practical skills in acrobatics, fire-breathing, dancing, and axe-throwing, which he combines with his superhuman traits for devastating effect.
