Description
Ghostblade, whose real name is Wang Yi, is the fourth-ranked hero in the world of To Be Hero X. He is known publicly as a cool-headed and exceptionally skilled assassin who completes his missions without uttering a single word, a trait that, along with his handsome features partially hidden by a gold mask, has earned him a large following of fans. However, this public persona is a stark contrast to his private reality as a socially awkward and emotionally stunted man in his forties, struggling to reconcile with the family he left behind.

His background is rooted in a chaotic childhood. Born into a large, loud family that ran a butcher shop, Ghostblade was overwhelmed by the constant noise and sensory input, a condition implied to be linked to neurodivergence or an affective disorder he has had since childhood. He found solace only in silence, which he viewed as a luxury. His aptitude with a blade began not as an assassin but as a butcher, where he would soothe animals before slaughter because he could not stand their cries, aiming for a quiet and professional approach his father lacked. This desire for silence and a fantasy of being a cool, silent assassin led him to build his hero persona on the social media platform FOMO when a viral post launched his career.

Personality-wise, Ghostblade is defined by his inability to express emotions. He cannot laugh or cry and has difficulty understanding his own feelings, a struggle that has persisted since childhood despite attempts at treatment. While this emotional detachment makes him an effective killer, it has crippled his personal life. He genuinely loves his wife and daughter but has no idea how to connect with them. After his wife left him, he resorted to stalking his own daughter from the shadows, keeping a notebook of her habits and preferences in a misguided attempt to know her, not fully understanding why this behavior is considered wrong until someone points it out. He is deeply antisocial, values peace above all else, and suffers from misophonia, which can trigger panic attacks in loud or crowded environments. While he cultivates a "chuunibyo" or edgelord persona, he is internally a deeply lonely and awkward individual.

His primary motivation is a belated desire to build a relationship with his estranged daughter, Wang Nuonuo. After years of distance, he realizes he loves her and wants to be part of her life, though he initially goes about it in the only way he knows how: by treating it like an assassination mission, involving surveillance and observation. This goal puts him into direct conflict and cooperation with other heroes, such as when he volunteers for a mission to an alien crash site specifically to protect Nuonuo, who is part of the research team. His role in the story is therefore that of a top-tier hero whose past and present collide, forcing him to confront his failures as a father and a husband.

His key relationships are fraught with misunderstanding. His ex-wife, Zhang Lan, loved his quiet nature but eventually left him when he refused to retire and raise their daughter within his large, noisy extended family, an idea that sent him into a panic attack. His daughter, Nuonuo, knows him only as a terrifying stalker and has no idea he is her father, as she was told he had died when she was young. He has a hostile relationship with his boss, Yan Mo, who eventually orders his assassination. In contrast, he develops an unexpected and begrudging connection with the loud and friendly hero Little Johnny, whom he initially finds irritating but later defends, showing a capacity for change. He also interacts with the young hero Loli, who acts as a foil to his silent nature, bluntly pushing him to confront his behavior and inadvertently helping him move closer to his daughter.

Throughout his story, Ghostblade undergoes a subtle but significant development. Initially presented as an emotionless killer who felt little remorse for his 175 confirmed kills, believing his targets deserved their fate, he begins to show genuine empathy after experiencing fatherhood. He comes to regret killing a man named Ah Sheng, finally understanding the desperate love a parent has for their child. He hesitates to follow orders to kill Little Johnny, sparing his life and even protecting him, a clear deviation from his previous ruthlessness. His character arc is not one of redemption in a grand sense, but a quiet, awkward, and deeply human struggle to break free from the silent, deadly persona he created for himself in order to be a real father.

Ghostblade's notable abilities are derived from the world's "Trust" system, where public belief grants superpowers. Because people believe he is a silent, swift assassin, he has become one. His primary abilities are superhuman speed and physical prowess, allowing him to leap great distances, punch through concrete, and dismember targets in an instant with his knives. He is a master of close-quarters combat and bladesmanship, skills honed from his days as a butcher. A key strength is his high resistance to supernatural powers, particularly those based on "Fear," such as the depression-inducing mist used by the villain DJ Shindig, which he was uniquely able to resist and fight through. However, his powers are a double-edged sword. The same trust that grants him abilities has also taken his voice; because his fans view him as a silent assassin, he has physically lost the ability to speak, a critical weakness that now prevents him from communicating with the daughter he longs to know.
