TV-Series
Description
Ciel Kaminari, also known by his alter ego Blader Z, is a prominent character introduced as a new member of Team Pendragon. Physically, Ciel is an average-sized boy with spiky orange hair, two bangs of which are shaped like lightning bolts, and striking green eyes that feature yellow lightning bolt patterns. His typical attire includes a lime green headband, a gray shirt with elbow-length sleeves and an orange stripe, a shoulder pack, black trousers with a turtle shell-like pattern, and gray sneakers with yellow laces. When assuming the identity of Blader Z, he dons a gray mask with a horn on the right side, a black gear-patterned lens with an orange Z at its center, a voice filter, and a cellphone connection to Khrome Ryugu.
Before turning professional, Ciel was known as an exceptional amateur blader with an undefeated streak of 502 match wins, earning him the title King of Amateurs. Although he did not climb the X through conventional means, his skill was considered on par with professional bladers from the top floors. He initially struggled with the decision of whether to go professional, but after being personally scouted by Khrome Ryugu to join the top-ranked team Pendragon, he decided to become a pro blader, replacing the departed Jaxon Cross.
Ciel is characterized as a reserved and calculating individual whose battle style reflects a philosophy of resilience and precise counterattacks. His loyalty runs deep, particularly toward Khrome Ryugu, whom he idolizes and respects immensely. Khrome told Ciel he had the potential to become one of the strongest bladers, and this belief became Ciels central motivation. He aims to someday surpass Khrome and is willing to do anything to be worthy of his place on Pendragon. This devotion runs so deep that he even turned down offers from other sponsors and adopted the masked Blader Z persona specifically to serve Khromes vision after Jaxon Crosss departure deeply affected his idol.
As Blader Z, Ciel adopts a more theatrical and confident demeanor, using the mask as a tool to add psychological pressure on opponents while masking his own vulnerabilities. This duality reveals a competitive streak and a strong desire to prove his worth. A significant part of his motivation stems from a personal grudge against Jaxon Cross, as he believes Jaxons departure harmed Khrome. Ciel becomes determined to surpass Jaxon and become more worthy as a Pendragon member than his predecessor.
Throughout the story, Ciels role centers on defending Pendragons legacy. He initially undermines opponents like Robin Kazami, who had zero wins climbing the X, but after losing a point to Robin, he realizes Robins potential and begins battling with full effort. This encounter leads Ciel to recognize Robin as an equal rival, forming a rivalry friendship between them. Following Khromes defeat, Ciel reveals his identity as Blader Z and vows to avenge and surpass Khrome, facing Robin in the final battle between Persona and Pendragon. Despite winning the match and maintaining Pendragons championship status, Ciel feels a sense of defeat unlike anything he has experienced before. He later expresses a desire to protect Pendragon in Khromes absence but struggles with his current inability to do so.
Key relationships define much of Ciels character arc. Khrome Ryugu serves as his idol and mentor, with Ciel even using a replica of Khromes bey, Cobalt Drake, at one point. Sigrid Nana-iro is his teammate on Pendragon, and Quinn Manju and Ginro also factor into his development, with Ginro acting as a mentor figure. His rivalry with Robin Kazami evolves from condescension to mutual respect after an intense battle, while his grudge against Jaxon Cross remains a persistent emotional driver.
In terms of abilities, Ciel is a highly skilled blader whose launch power is recorded at 8800. His primary beyblades include Obsidian Shell 4-60D, a defense-type given to him by Khrome, and later Shelter Drake 7-80GP, a balance-type combining concepts from his Obsidian Shell and Khromes Impact Drake. He receives multiple Shelter Drake customs from Packun. Ciel is also known to have used replicas, including Cobalt Drake 4-60F, Buster Dran 1-60A, and a fake replica of Cobalt Dragoon.
His special moves include the Xtreme Dash, where the beyblades Bit interacts with the X-Celerator Rail of the Xtreme Stadium to increase speed. His personal variant of a more advanced technique is called Xtreme Dash Dragonic Break Z. With Shelter Drake, he employs moves such as Hyper Boost Rejection Barrier to parry attacks, and the Xtreme Dash variant called Solid Break, where the bey uses its sharper parts to perform an uppercut resulting in a Burst Finish. In the Aero Stadium, he can perform the Air Ride Xtreme Dash, climbing the elevated rail to strike opponents from above.
