TV-Series
Description
Ciel Kaminari, also known by his alias Blader Z or Kamen Z, is a prominent character in the Beyblade X series. He is an exceptional amateur blader with an undefeated record of 502 consecutive wins, a feat that places his skill on par with professional bladers from the highest floors of the X Tower. His decision to turn professional is spurred by Khrome Ryugu, the leader of the top-ranked team Pendragon, who personally scouts him to fill the vacancy left by the departure of Jaxon Cross. Deeply respecting Khrome as his idol, Ciel adopts the masked persona of Blader Z, willing to do anything to prove himself worthy of his new team and to help fulfill Khrome's ambitions.
In terms of appearance, Ciel is an average-sized boy with distinctive orange hair shaped into two bangs resembling lightning bolts and green eyes that also feature lightning bolt patterns. He typically wears a lime green headband, a gray shirt with elbow sleeves and an orange stripe, and a shoulder pack. His trousers have a pattern reminiscent of a turtle shell, and he wears gray sneakers with yellow laces. In his Blader Z guise, he dons a gray mask with a horn on the right side, a black gear-patterned lens with an orange "Z" at its center, a voice filter, and a built-in cellphone connection to Khrome.
Personality-wise, Ciel is portrayed as reserved, calculating, and fiercely independent, with a battle style that mirrors these traits by focusing on resilience and precise counterattacks. Beneath a calm and methodical exterior lies a strong competitive streak and a deep-seated need to prove his worth. As Blader Z, he adopts a more theatrical and confident demeanor, using the mask to hide his vulnerabilities and apply psychological pressure on opponents. His deep loyalty to Khrome is a primary driving force, motivating him to hold a personal grudge against Jaxon Cross, whose departure from Pendragon he believes deeply affected his idol. This fuels his determination to surpass Jaxon and become the ultimate blader, with his stated goal being to someday surpass even Khrome himself.
Ciel's role in the story is central to the dynamic between the top teams. As the newest member of the reigning champion team Pendragon, he serves as a formidable rival to the protagonists of Team Persona, particularly Robin Kazami. Their battle during the title match between Pendragon and Persona is a pivotal moment. Initially underestimating Robin, who has zero wins as a professional, Ciel is forced to acknowledge his opponent's potential after losing a point, leading him to fight with his full effort. This encounter transforms their rivalry, with Ciel eventually recognizing Robin as an equal. Following Khrome's defeat, Ciel's motivations evolve as he seeks to avenge his idol and protect Pendragon's legacy in Khrome's absence, while struggling to find his own path when he feels he cannot live up to that responsibility.
Ciel's key relationships define his journey. His bond with Khrome Ryugu is one of idolization and deep respect, to the point of using replicas of Khrome's beys like Cobalt Drake. In contrast, he holds a distinct grudge against Jaxon Cross, seeing him as a rival who abandoned their shared team. His relationship with Robin Kazami evolves from one-sided disdain to a mutual rivalry and friendship, recognizing Robin as a blader capable of pushing him to his limits. He also has a mentor in Ginro and counts Sigrid Nana-iro as a teammate.
Ciel's development is marked by his shift from a masked enigma to a blader openly confronting his own limitations. He begins as an amateur king hiding behind the Blader Z persona to serve Khrome's wishes but gradually reveals his identity and personal ambitions. A key part of his growth involves accepting new beyblades and training to overcome his struggles, as he finds himself troubled by his inability to lead Pendragon in Khrome's absence and continues to search for his own unique blading "path".
As a blader, Ciel possesses remarkable launch power and technical skill. His notable abilities include a variety of special moves performed with his beyblades. His primary beyblade, given to him by Khrome, is Obsidian Shell 4-60D, a Defense Type. Later, he receives three versions of Shelter Drake from Packun, a Balance Type that combines concepts from his own bey and Khrome's Impact Drake. His special techniques include the Xtreme Dash Dragonic Break Z, a variant of a powerful move that requires high launch power and precision, and the Hyper Boost Rejection Barrier, which allows Shelter Drake to parry attacks. He also utilizes the Xtreme Dash Solid Break, where Shelter Drake uses its sharper parts to perform an uppercut for a Burst Finish, and the Air Ride Xtreme Dash, a more powerful aerial version of the standard Xtreme Dash performed in a special Aero Stadium.
