Description
Akane Hououji is a nineteen-year-old woman who works as a part-timer at the Familia cafe and serves as the vocalist and guitarist for an indie band. She has blonde hair, cut short above her shoulders with bangs often hanging over the left side of her face, and blue eyes. Her natural hair color is black, which she changed after leaving her family home. She was born on December 1st and has AB blood type. Her physical measurements are B79, W57, H80.

Akane comes from a prestigious and wealthy family that runs a trading company, though this background is not something she typically reveals to others. Her father passed away at a young age, and she was raised by her mother and grandmother, who is named Yoko Chihaya. Despite her privileged upbringing, she does not receive financial support from her parents and works as a freelancer to sustain herself.

On the surface, Akane presents a cool, aloof, and nonchalant demeanor. She has sharp eyes and maintains a calm, reserved composure, rarely displaying her emotions openly. This cool exterior, however, conceals several contrasting traits. She is surprisingly timid, possessing a deep-seated fear of ghosts and ghost stories to the point where she cannot even go to the bathroom alone at night. She dislikes waking up early due to having low blood pressure and has a tendency to grow bored with things easily, which has historically made it difficult for her to commit to a single pursuit for a long period. She also has a bad habit of becoming dependent on others when facing difficulties. Despite this, she is considered by her peers to be the most mature of the heroines, often choosing to observe the antics of others rather than participate directly, though she will sometimes engage by lightly teasing those around her, particularly Hayato.

Akane's role at the Familia cafe is intrinsically tied to its late owner, Hayato's grandmother. She deeply loved the coffee brewed by the predecessor and learned the craft from her, eventually becoming the number one barista at Familia. This job is the first long-term commitment she has been able to maintain, thanks to the support of Hayato's grandmother. Her passion for music is another defining aspect of her identity. When performing as the lead vocalist and guitarist for her band, her reserved nature falls away, and she sings with such intensity and passion that she has won over fans, including Hayato himself. She is also a talented songwriter who often composes new material in the quiet of the cafe after it closes.

A significant part of Akane's personal journey involves her struggle for independence from her family's expectations. Her mother, unaware of her daughter's happiness and stability at the cafe, had given Akane a one-year grace period before she would be forced to join the family's trading company and enter an arranged marriage. As this deadline approached, a confrontation with her mother and Hayato forced a turning point. When Akane attempted to rely on Hayato to speak for her, he scolded her for her dependency, pushing her to voice her own desires. This experience proved transformative. With Hayato's encouragement and the skills she developed at Familia, she was able to convince her mother to allow her to continue her job. This event marked a shift in her character, making her bolder and more assertive in pursuing both her music career and her personal feelings.

Her relationship with Hayato Kasukabe is central to her development. Initially, she did not think much of him, but witnessing his sincere emotions, such as seeing him cry, caused her feelings to change. After the incident with her mother, she began to open up to him considerably, stating that she would make coffee for him for as long as he would have her. She is the first of the heroines to recognize her romantic feelings for him and is notably bold in her pursuit, being the first to confess, albeit indirectly. She often expresses her affection in a teasing or joking manner, but her intentions are sincere. For his part, Hayato cares for her deeply, as shown when he helped her confront her family. Her relationships with the other female staff members, particularly Riho Tsukishima and Shiragiku Ono, are characterized by a mix of camaraderie and rivalry, as they all develop feelings for Hayato. While she is competitive with them, she generally gets along well with them when they are not vying for his attention.
