Description
Edgar Redmond is a student at Weston College, where he holds the prestigious position of prefect for the Scarlet Fox dormitory, also known as the Red House. As one of the four dormitory prefects, collectively known as the P4, he is considered a central figure and a superstar within the school. Edgar comes from a noble family and is the nephew of Viscount Aleister Druitt. He is a young man with long, silver-blond hair, which he typically wears tied loosely over his shoulder with a crimson ribbon, and possesses striking scarlet eyes. His school uniform reflects his status, featuring a red waistcoat, a striped tie, and a rose fastened to the collar of his coat alongside the badge of his dormitory.

On the surface, Edgar exhibits a friendly, amicable, and magnanimous personality. He is often seen in a relaxed state, such as lying on a sofa at the Swan Gazebo, and carries himself with a charismatic and approachable demeanor. He is known for encouraging others, including newcomers like Ciel Phantomhive, to follow the school's rules while being somewhat lenient with them himself. For instance, he is quick to correct a person's outward appearance, such as fixing a crooked tie, to ensure it is suitable for presentation, yet he casually uses first names in formal settings, brushing off admonishments with the reasoning that no one is around to punish them. His charm and refined looks make him popular with the ladies, though he has no desire to settle on a fixed partner. Edgar is also genuinely interested in talented and noble students, regardless of which dormitory they belong to, and actively tries to recruit them. This inclusive and proactive attitude has solidified his reputation as the school's star.

Beneath this charming exterior, however, Edgar is deeply committed to the preservation of Weston College's absolute traditions. This commitment becomes the driving force behind his most significant and dark motivations. When faced with a crisis that threatens the school's morality and governance, he makes a conscious choice to shoulder sin in the name of tradition. After a fellow prefect kills a corrupt underclassman and the complicit vice-principal, Edgar decides with the other prefects to cover up the murders. He rationalizes this horrific act by stating that if upholding tradition requires sin, they will bear it together. His motivations are not born of malice but from a misguided sense of duty and pride in his position and the institution he represents.

Within the story, Edgar plays a pivotal role as a member of the P4, helping to govern the student body. When Ciel Phantomhive arrives to investigate a series of mysterious disappearances, Edgar takes an interest in him, offering him a place in the Red House and attempting to recruit him. He serves as a key figure in the Cricket tournament, where his athletic abilities shine. As the narrative unfolds, Edgar is revealed to have been involved in covering up the murder of his former underclassman, Derrick Arden, and the vice-principal, Johann Agares, by the other prefects. He uses his uncle's influence to contact the mysterious Dawn Society, leading to a failed attempt to resurrect the deceased, which instead turns them into grotesque Bizarre Dolls. Ultimately, his actions are exposed, and as a consequence, he is expelled from Weston College.

Edgar's key relationships are primarily with the other members of the P4: Gregory Violet, Lawrence Bluewer, and Herman Greenhill. Together, they form a close-knit group bound by their shared duty, and later, by their shared guilt. His relationship with his underclassmen, known as Fags, is also central to his character. Within a short period, he has three different Fags: starting with Derrick Arden, whose true nature he failed to see; then Maurice Cole, who he dismisses for treachery; and finally Joanne Harcourt, who becomes his Fag after Maurice's expulsion. His interactions with Ciel Phantomhive are also significant, as Edgar is both a welcoming senior figure and an indirect subject of Ciel's investigation.

Edgar undergoes a dramatic development over the course of his story. He begins as a confident and admired prefect, seemingly living an ideal school life. However, he is forced to confront the dark underbelly of the institution he helps lead, transitioning from a star student to a conspirator in murder and cover-up. After his expulsion from Weston College, Edgar's character arc does not end in disgrace. He later reappears as a member of the S4, a choir group performing at the Sphere Music Hall. In this new role, he has transformed into a modern idol-like figure, captivating audiences as a singer and performer, suggesting a form of redemption or a new beginning after the fall from grace.

Edgar possesses several notable abilities that contribute to his status as a school star. He is an excellent cricket player, famous for his powerful signature move known as the Crimson Tornado, which he uses to secure victories for his dormitory during tournaments. Beyond athletics, he is also gifted in the arts, showing talent in both poetry and singing, and is noted to have a beautiful voice. These diverse talents in sports, literature, and music make him a well-rounded and admired figure at Weston College.
